I have been eyeing up the trendy kitchen shops for a nice piece of olive wood, usually sold in flat platters. Quite hard, dense and easily oiled to keep it healthy but most important of all, a beautiful grain that won't splinter. Well worth the trendy price tag in my opinion. Has anyone tried olive wood for paddle making? I'd like to replace my Polish decorative carved pine paddle/cheese board that has seen quite a lot of service over the years

I've always been lead to believe timber is from standards while wood is from coppiced trees.

Sorry to spoil the fun, but can I PLEASE recommend that you avoid using Yew! Yew is fantastic stuff, especially if you use the heartwood and sapwood combined as naturally occurring laminate (see the Old English Long Bow) but it is also VERY VERY toxic. It is so toxic that nothing else will grow around a yew tree, not even other, younger, yew. It is so toxic that you can use untreated yew wood for posts in the ground and it will outlast iron. From impacted skin contact with bare wood, the chances are that nothing would occur. However, if by chance you are allergic (and this is not unlikely) it can be very serious indeed. PLEASE don't anyone try and carve a dildo or gag or any other internal device from yew. I know a chap who carved a lovely spoon and a bowl from a freshly cut branch. He blistered his lips, mouth and throat as a result before collapsing and experiencing both breathing problems and palpitations. He was probably sensitive to yew, but he was lucky not to die. If by chance yew enters the blood stream or digestive system, you are in deep trouble. Yew poisoning is extremely unlikely indeed from a paddling, but let's just get something straight: there is as yet NO cure for yew poisoning.

There is no cure for yew poisoning so do not use it. It often found in churchyards and graveyards and is used to stop grazing animals entering, because they do not like the smell. It also planted as a plant to ward off evil spirits and the devil. And another wood not to use is silver birch, also poisoness not just for paddles but birches too. http://empressm7.uboot.com/ http://www.socialkink.com/empressmartine Vampire, pro/lifestyle ts dom/switch.Ageplay mummy/aunty/AB,medical play, domestic, energy, outdoor specialist."Awsome! Most parts of yew are poisomous (except the flesh of the berries). I believe it is the needles that are used to extract taxane for use in chemotherapy. Birch sap can be used to make a rather pleasant wine and I've not been poisoned yet

I am an amateur, it is true. But mostly, I was just making a smutty joke involving a euphemism for erect penis. |
