This fits with my own observation that those most likely to compare living in the UK to a "third world country" are people who have never visited a third world country, except perhaps to ride in an air conditioned coach from an airport to a four star holiday hotel.
England - and indeed the UK's strengths go beyond the ups and downs of individual politicians and governments so it seems inappropriate on this thread to bemoan Blair/Brown/Cameron/Clegg. At least we have a genuine opportunity to change our government through the ballot box. Discuss that with a Libyan or a Syrian. Here you are free to criticise politicians openly, without fearing a knock at the door in the middle of the night.
At least here you're unlikely to be jailed or stoned if you happen to be gay or bi, as you might in "Christian" countries like Uganda.

Yup. As one who lived and was brought up in various third world countries (each unique and wondrous in its own way) I have to agree. This country is remarkable for its freedoms, and those freedoms are sadly most unappreciated by those who have grown up sheltered within them.
I agree very strongly with TSF's comments above - not the ones about particular politicians, the other ones... Damn, I look like a creep now. It's just really that he is talking perfect sense. Hey ho, creep it is then, but

You would have done well in an english boarding school as a creep! But seriously few people in this country, realise and respect the freedoms they have. If I tried to go out dressed,as I was tonight, to buy some olive oil in place like uganda,I be risking my life. You are engaged full time to be my personal creep. I'm trying to think how we could signify your new position? "The art of being a Gentleman is knowing when not to be"
