No, not the iPhone non-story that's going around and alarming journalists who really should know better. This one concerns a genuine potential threat:

In the case of my own router (which is on a closed network and therefore nominally invisible to prying eyes at layers higher than the Ethernet address), I could even identify which of my neighbours owns the Android phone (he's the one with the BMW and Ducati
)
Of course, there is no evidence as yet that the bad guys have any compromised apps, banner ads or websites which can identify exactly where you live from just one click. But you can bet that, even if they weren't working on it before, they are now....

Can your mac address be seen by other computer users? or as least found via mail and stuff xxx Don't make them a priority, when they only make you an option...

Meh, it's time like this when I really wish I could I decypher all that hi-tech, internet, gobbledygook nonsense Or maybe it's easier just to be oblivious to it all and carry on as normal .....

So the bottomline is ... if I know the MAC address of your router, then I know where you live if the Google van drove past your house. So now the last line of defense from stalkers is that there's no link between MAC and internet IP addresses. As far as I know, you can't determine a MAC address from an IP address unless you're in the same local network. If someone finds out a way to bridge that last gap, then anyone's real-life address would be immediately available to whoever can see their IP address. Which is via direct webcam/file sharing, accessing someone's web server ... or many other services. Without that last line of defense, the guy who runs "kidnapfantasies.com", or the guy you showed your booty off on webcam the other day will know where you live and can come round with a white van. There used to be the rule that there's no true anonymity on the internet, because your internet provider always knew who was using their IP address at what time. But if things just go one step worse, anyone with some basic knowhow will know who you are and where you live. Your Captain Jack

Hmm ... google has a big database which lets you find out the approximate latitude/longitude of a wireless network that you're within range of. That's kind of useful if your computer wants to know where it is. I've allowed a couple of websites (such as Facebook Places) to get this info from my laptop. So when I'm online from some random cafe, I can leave a quick review of the place without actually having to figure out which one of 12 places named "The Juice Bar" or I'm actually in. As far as privacy goes, its somewhat worrying. I can easily go wandering round town, and get my phone to spit out a list of the MAC addresses of routers within 100m. Now, with this webpage, I could find out pretty accurately (within about 300m) where those routers are located.

Stuck the MAC address of my router in, and up pops a little map of my street. The location is centred on the house opposite, so it narrows down the location of my router to about half a dozen houses. I'm not overly worried though. How is anyone going to determine the MAC address of my router? Da Vinci was a well known sexual deviant. You know that sketch of the naked man in the wheel? 1. Why I didn't bother enabling wi-fi. What's SO bad about cables? 2. In the report referenced by the OP it is quite clear that this has the dastardly hand of @Skyhook behind it, presumably linked to The Academy so they can facilitate kidnapping fantasies more easily.
