Hello IC, I am looking into purchasing some suspension cuffs. I have done the online search and found many on offer, but I need some advice on style and quality. There seem to be three basic styles on offer: 1 - Loop around the wrist and then hang by a d ring on the end of the strap. 2 - buckled around the wrist and hand and then a d ring on the back of the hand (that I can tell from pictures). 3 - Buckle around the hand and wrist with a bar to loop the hand around and then a d ring on a strap that arches over the hand bar. Do any of you have experience of using each / some / all of these styles? Which are the best in terms of comfort, weight bearing and usability especially over long sessions where they have to hold much of the wearer's weight and tolerate a fair bit of movement? The next part of the question is the difference in quality between different purveyors of each of the styles. It is impossible to see from pictures whether or not a certain seller is offering a reasonable price or an over inflated price for the same quality as the next seller. The prices vary immensely and it seems impossible to see why in some cases.
Thank you for your help and I look forward to hearing of your experiences and recommendations and even more so to buying such cute and wonderful things Kitty

OOooo I shall be following this thread with some interest! I have tried out the buckles over hand and wrist with a d-ring on the side/back style. Because I have nerve damage in my wrists (healed but still sensitive), I find it difficult to be cuffed at all with my hands above my head-the weight of my arms is enough to send my fingers tingling/painful in normal cuffs, we tried out suspension cuffs instead, and it worked a treat!
So I'm saving up for a pair of my own, to use For every minute you are angry you lose sixty seconds of happiness. (Ralph Waldo Emerson)

You cannot tell if a cuff is of good enough quality unless you see it in the flesh. Even then, the way it is constructed and the materials can still be in question. I have a set of ankle and wrist cuffs I thought were very strong. Yet a wriggling, struggling girl managed to open up a steel loop that was not welded. Luckily I had not used these cuffs for full suspension and now they are relagated to light play only. I went to the LAM the other week and found some decent suspension cuffs with a large steel ring that is almost seamless. I am a big guy and I have tested these by hanging on each one individually and effectively jumping and shock loading them to test them. They are leather based with a slightly softer or brushed internal lining and the steel ring can be grabbed by the user to lessen the strain on the wrist itself should they wish. I have since used them, the wearer reports they were comfortable and no they did not break and no one escaped. They get the thumbs up from me at least. I purchased them from a guy who goes by the name "Kinky Cobbler" Kinky Cobbler Leatherdelights London alternative Market and BBB every month. I will send the email addy via PM.

What do you want to do with them? Do you wish to actually suspend someone from them, so their feet are off the floor, or just hold their arms up in the air with most of their weight held on their feet. If their weight is being taken on their wrists this is very hard on them, and you need something really good quality to spread the load, like these http://j.mp/gejM2j even so they need to be strong and fit to take it for long. The type with the bar are good here as the sub can hold on and take most of the weight in their grip. Remember that just having the arms raised above the head for a long period will make them ache. Another vote for Leather delights at LAM or BBB, his quality is as good as any and his prices a lot lower than most he also puts a lifetime guarantee on his cuffs. http://www.londonalternativemarket.com/

I have a set of these which I have been very happy with: http://www.quality-control.co.uk/products/suspen... The issue with type (1) is that the weight *can* make them over-tighten on the wrists & restrict circulation to the hands... I have seen (but not used) these, which have an additional buckle to stop them tightening too far, which seems like a good idea: http://www.leatherloveandpassion.co.uk//padded-s... As @chrismanc says, full suspension by the wrists alone is quite hard on the wrists (as well as the arms & shoulders), so how long someone can take it for varies quite a lot. Are you intending on using them for full suspension? As @nastybstd says, the only real way to tell the quality is to see them IRL... That said, certain makers (top-to-bottom-leathers for example) have a very good reputation & aren't going to be selling rubbish.
I am curious about the other types too, but have no personal experience of them, yet... 376, xxx. "Life at its best is a creative synthesis of opposites in fruitful harmony" - Martin Luther King, Jr.

If you are looking for top quality materials and workmanship look no further than the Rolls Royce supplier http://www.top-to-bottom-leathers.co.uk/Bondage-... We have found their equipment to be best around, superbly made and lasts really well. The first item bought from them 12 years ago is still in excellent order. We have both versions of their suspension cuffs. Chris

Thank you all for the responses.
@nastybstd and @jackthecat thanks for the Leather Delights recommendations. I have never had any complaints about the things I have bought from them in the past. I can't quite picture which type of cuffs they offer. Could you point to whether they are more like design 1, 2 or 3? Thanks
@chrismanch thank you for the links. I would be interested to hear which of the cuffs you own you prefer and why. I have been tempted by both of the designs you linked to, so a little insight would be so helpful. Or maybe I need both... They are not necessarily for feet off the ground suspension, although it is highly likely that balance will be lost at times. Tiptoe suspension is also a possibility. I already use these methods with rope and regular padded cuffs, so am aware of what strains the body takes, but thanks anyway for the advice.

I can't see how that design would be a remotely good idea. either in terms of circulation or point loading. I've used the sort that fetters.co.uk sell, which do seem to distribute weight better and don't create pinch points.
Still gonna hurt though
