Feckin' expensive!!
So far for the £340 I have paid to them in November last year all I have out of it is one copy of the divorce petition and a letter in gobbledegook and another letter sent to USA to my wife.
The letter in gobbledegook actually said (in plain English translated by the person at the court today) that if I did not hear from my wife within 18 days then I could do further things to advance the divorce proceedings. Why the fuck can't they say that in plain English?
It now seems that I have to pay out more to various other organisations to get proof that she is not divorcing me in this country nor is she dead, so that I can go further.
Forgive me for being utterly stoopid here but I thought that if I apply to the courts for a divorce and the paperwork is sent to my wife then she has to get in touch with the courts not with me.
I'm just wondering how much my bill will come to for all the work and time I am doing on behalf of the court, and whether I will get paid for it.

There comes a point when a hit man is cheaper. Rohypnol means never having to say "Would you like another coffee?".

When dealing with the courts you really do need to hire a good solicitor. And I think in a divorce it's a good idea to keep things as amicable as possible. A little bit of give and take even if you don't think it's deserved can speed things along which as time = money to a solicitor is always a good thing.

Actually the courts are usually quite helpful. I'd only recommend getting a solicitor if children are involved or there are assets from the marriage that are unlikely to be settled amicably to the satisfaction of both parties. Otherwise, there are plenty of online sites such as divorce online that you can successfully file for divorce and obtain your decree nisi / absolute.

There are no kids, no property and no possessions between me and the wife so I feel no need to pay someone about £100 per hour to do what I can for next to nothing. Also I do not have the sort of income to pay someone £100 per hour. There is a fine line between sanity and insanity. I have a foot firmly planted either side of that line

Think your issue here is because your not dealing with 2 ppl in same country. So far for my £340 within 3 wks have had all paperwork i filled in, plus ex filled in, plus have completed the affidavit which is now B4 the judge... told "you will hear in next 3wks". No probs so far......fingers x'd Edited 16 Apr 11, 7:50 AM by stu_n_ali |
