I wonder if any of you noticed, like me, the TV guide for tonight's "Lewis" talking about one of the "alumnae" of an Oxford college being murdered. I wonder if, like me, you instinctively harrumphed over dumbing down?
Then I realised that they were talking about an all-female college. Maybe they think there's such a word as "alumna"? Maybe there is such a word? Better check: first port of call was Google Translate ("better than it used to be") and yes indeed, there is such a word ![]()
Rare to see such pleasing attention to detail on TV these days.

I thought you were going to pick them up on , "... an Oxford college..." which should, of course, be, "...a University of Oxford college...". Sorry... is that too picky...?
