Got a soft spot for TV historian Bettany Hughes - in fact she's damn gorgeous - but probably not quite intellectual enough for me.
Anyway, back on topic - she uses the word "slaves" an awful lot in her TV programs. Do you think she's trying to tell us something?

Yeah, that's she's an historian who makes a lot of shows about ancient history.

I met someone once who worked with her... according to him she's insufferable... very up herself... still, I like her and her programmes, especially the one about Sparta.

I've met her a couple of times now and she was warm, affable and carried the faint aroma of cinnamon.

I do so agree; I wrote some time ago http://www.informedconsent.co.uk/posts/269669/ and have of course been watching her latest series avidly. "Wisdom begins in wonder” (Socrates)

Did you see the front page of the Telegraph last week? It was mainly a giant photograph of her. I hate the Telegraph on every imaginable level, but wow. It was a work of art. In other news, I challenge you to sit through the rest of this video without being utterly floored by the resulting mental images. (Sorry Bettany, I don't have a time machine but if you're ever tempted, I do have a bottle of olive oil and a lot of literature that's decidedly... ahem... Sapphic...)

Just spotted this posting rather late.
Ha - I feel a kindred spirit in many ways, including a profound dislike of the Telegraph. So I didn't see it, but have now. And I agree with her point, so easily and so often ridiculed, that it is reasonable to make spaces for marginalised groups until the playing field is levelled. And I loved the video clip too for all the same reasons as you. May I be a fly on the wall if you get to use your olive oil on the lovely woman? I do hope you're fully recovered from your horrific accident.
