Well, I managed to avoid getting caught up in the demos today (and the Tartan Army too), but I was rather tickled when I saw a placard announcing that:
"Unison condems[sic] library closures."
I felt like asking the bearer if she'd promise to visit at least one library if I paid to keep it open

They weren't something to avoid, but something to be part of. And yes, "Condem" there is a play on words that seems to have been lost on you. trn

Well I see your point, not v clever if you need it explaining! I would have just assumed as you did that they were just a retard!

Paying to keep a library open, especially in an economically deprived area, would be a good, socially responsible act. The wholesale closing of libraries is surely one of the most philistine acts from this nasty government, and completely at odds with its rhetoric of social mobility.
Most people didn't need it explaining. "Con-Dem nation" headlines have been used repeatedly since the election.
