tsunami and Stormy (9)

I hope no one takes this in the wrong way. The Earthquake that hit Japan (and the one in NZ the other week), and the subsequent Tsunami are absolutely devastating beyond what I can imagine.

I am rocked, in my own little way, by the news I received today of Stormy's death. What strikes me as interesting, in the weird way that my odd mind connects things, is Stormywaters and Tsunami.

I always thought Stormy had picked an apt name for himself. He seemed like someone searching for something that he was never quite able to find. He could never quite settle. Could never quite find the calm.

And yet, if you had the pleasure to meet him in person, he was very calm. Or at least that was my experience with him. I only regret I didn't get to know him better.

I think though, he also had a way of bringing out strong emotions in others. He himself was a person of strong emotion, and he wasn't afraid to express it. Nor did he lack the ability. And this is where the connection with the tsunami comes in, perhaps.

I for one, am quite strongly shook by his loss. More so than I expected.

Perhaps now the storm will find some calm waters.

I said almost the same words to a friend today. It hit me much harder than I guessed it would.

I have been hoping the same for him all day.

It would have been his birthday on Sunday - so my hope for him is that by then, wherever he is, he has got it all sorted out so that he is celebrating by sitting calmly on a throne, surrounded by svelte angels adoring him.

I wondered. You two had quite a good banter going on recently.

You say Ouch like it's a bad word.

It's been one of those days for reflection. His death has also hit me for some reason, we were not close but can't put finger on why I feel the way I do, especially when initially told he had died.

One thing though, it shows that people on IC really do care about eachother in ways that we never know :-)

It's strange, this is how I felt too. I quite often feel indifferent to blogs I read about deaths of people who were on here if I didn't know them, but feel for the people suffering from it.

This is different though, I actually had a little cry and talked to my partner about it wwho doesn't really go on here. Like you say, I can't put my finger on it.

(Just to add, this doesn't mean I feel that the death of others were any less important, I'm just responding with how this affected me)

Also, I'm really glad you said this Penwiggle. For some reason I thought the same earlier (stormy + storms) but was afraid of saying it, so I'm glad that you shared this.

It seems Stormy's death has caused many ripples, and touched many people far and wide. And perhaps deeper than they themselves expected. Certainly true for me.

Hugs to you pen. Conrad was an absolute sweetheart and yes he had a gentle calming persona, such a kind and thoughtful man. Adorable. Wish I had seen more of him. xxx
