I'm not excited by much these days but last week a few of the students and moi were persuaded along to some event of which we knew little. So scuffing my heels off I went and found it was being run by the BBC.
Long story short, we had to pitch an idea for a festival in Lancashire to 300 people. I held off my herpes joke but wish I hadn't because I didn't win. Next thing, a special guest appeared and me, 3 rows away, could not believe it, but one of my comedy icons, Victoria Wood, was up to answer questions and talk about her work.
OMG, that woman pre Dinner Ladies, was my all time female funny person ever. I was absolutely in my element and I got to talk to her, even though she hadn't a clue what I was on about!!
That was such a fantastic surprise, but I think it's an age thing, because the teens and 20 year olds were no where near as excited as I was. They were talking about some celebrity bling boys and skanky singers I'd not even heard of.
But to see Victoria Wood today, for me, was absolutely amazing..

Thanks, she is one of few people who I would get excited about being in the same room as. In the 1980's, I would drink sherry and watch Victoria Wood As Seen on TV. If I ever felt down, I would watch her sketches and it would always buck me up.. She's so pure, Moses could'nt even part her knees.....Joan Rivers on Marie Osmond.

My friend Phillip and I would do French and Saunders sketches (him being Saunders) word for word, with 'how many hands is it please' being our fave and he would pretend to play piano while I was Victoria Wood looking for my friend 'Kimberley' - those were the days when 6th form was fun.

Ah, she's a bloody national treasure. I know it's not strictly Victoria Wood, but this is one of my all time favourite sketches. It's Julie Walters "Two soups". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6aYLOf8CUQ
