I understand that the changes that he advocates would make it illegal to expose a person's law-abiding private life, not Illegal corruption or public-interest illustrations of public hipocrisy. The idea that a national newspaer should ever be allowed to expose a person's consensual sexual habits just to put on circulation is absolutely repugnant - it is an act of the most blatent bullying, and the perpetrators should get the treatmant that ewvery bully deserves - a comprehensive beating. Following the revealations that NOTW has been tapping phones, the editors should all have been arrested and questioned, journalists suspended, the plant empounded, circulation stopped, and Rupert Murdoch informed in no uncertain terms tht he is not the ruling power in this country, rather he is an interfering, malicious and hostile foreign national, and if he ever returns to Britain, he'll be gaoled as soon as he gets off the plane. And horse whipped in Trafalgar Square.

I suspect he won't get the law change he wants but it certainly would feel fairer fair if people were told in advance, so they had a chance to stop publication which is what happens in most cases already. The question of when the duty of the press is to reveal lying and cheating and illegality and hypocrisy is the harder one to balance against privacy rights. This isn't Max M's case (as the other side's argument that he was beaten so hard he could not consent in law and thus was committing an illegal act was not accepted by the court) but in other cases - leading anti gay clergyman found to have 4 male lovers or back to basics MP always banging on about husbands and wives must be faithful, I have never strayed has 3 women on the go kind of thing I suppose they would argue over in secret before it was decided if they could go ahead and publish the material.

Mosley said, at the end of the interview, that this had cost him a great deal of money and that he was prepared to spend more; he acknowledged that there are very many people who cannot afford to take on this battle and expressed his commitment to continue. He would not disclose the sum he has set aside to fund this seeing it as 'showing his hand' but his detrmination was obvious. Hopefully this will be beneficial to many.

Re - 'The question of when the duty of the press is to reveal lying and cheating and illegality and hypocrisy is the harder one to balance against privacy rights.' Errr? Let's get real. The 'press' has no 'duty', other than printing whatever crap the moguls who own the press have dictated their press will print. Anyone thinking the news/press/media works 'in the public interest' is lulu, cloud cuckoo. Hound tony bliar and his international criminal cohorts in genocide? Nerr. To go for the easy option/distraction, sadly, is rule number one. The silky-smooth soothing voice of reason and logic. What an erudite and intelligent individual who I support in his bid to change the law (MM) - what a poor gutter-snipe interviewer (JH) who should not be employed (funded by our money!) by our supposedly most intelligent radio station Go Max Go!

I think this misses the point. Our fight shouldn't be to support Max so our "shameful little secrets" don't get exposed - or don't get exposed if you have enough money to protect yourself. Our fight should be to have BDSM covered by the same freedom of sexuality as homosexuality. In truth the gay commuunity now has better protection than the hetrosexual community - Peter Mandelson could be caught having it away with half the occupants of a leather bar and the tabloids still wouldn't go near it. In truth BDSM should be no more an issue of public interst than whether you do it doggy style or not - it's a matter of taste, not of morality. S.x.

What the programme underlined for me was just how little the motivation for bdsm is understood.JH constantly equated it with sex.Now bdsm can be very sex enhancing, but equally it can played without sex coming into it whatsoever.JH was constantly harping on about prostitution whereas a skilled Dom/me really has much more in common with an actor. I think Mosley gets a bad reputation because of who is father was, which is unfair.Although he did admit to having been a Tory.

Although to be quite honest there probably was a little bit of Nazi fantasising going on with the German accents? |
