The BDSM Business board isn't really being used in the way it was intended (shop talk between BDSM businesses with the odd advert for staff) and in some ways it's a distraction. In particular, quite a few people post queries about where to buy things that would be best posted on one of the main boards. There are also adverts for work: a mixture of requests for kink-friendly plumbers from customers, and ads from photographers looking for models. I think it would be less confusing to remove the BDSM Business board so the product request posts all go on the main boards, and to encourage the creation of one or more job ads groups, similar to the @For_Sale_And_Wanted group. (Just one group? One for B2C service ads, one for B2B service ads? One for photography ads?) Any other ideas? Thanks Admin Remember: it's only a website Edited Sat 19 Feb 11, 11:28 PM by Admin

Is it possible to create a split board or would that be recreating the problem? SOS The Titter group - for when you don't feel too serious.

For the ads? We ideally want to avoid having ads on the Admin-moderated discussion boards (events are an unavoidable exception and often generate discussions about what events are like, who's going etc.) Since these ads are the kind of thing that interested people go looking for, group(s) like For_Sale_And_Wanted should be what's needed.
Another way of looking at this thread is as a request for someone/people to set up job ads groups Admin

But what ads?? If you look on the newly created Dungeon Hire link there is a specific one in Manchester which reads like a job ad. "Looking for Mistress to rent chamber" (it's in the wrong place). Then IC becomes more fractured and harder to navigate. If people are able to post on a specific BDSM for cash board for FREE then it's in the appropriate place surely! Otherwise we get spammed. The groups section takes time to build up, we live in a society that wants instant gratification, so it might die off after 14 days.

Replacements for the BDSM Business board? "The board isn't really being used in the way it was intended and in some ways it's a distraction." Are the businesses that use the board happy with the board the way it is? I for one am. Who is it a distraction to? - no one makes a person visit the business board. "In particular, quite a few people post queries about where to buy things that would be best posted on one of the main boards." Is not a question about a business's product and where to buy that product specifically a business related topic? "There are also adverts for work: a mixture of requests for kink-friendly plumbers from customers, and ads from photographers looking for models." Again surely a business related topic? "I think it would be less confusing to remove the BDSM Business board" Less confusing to who? Is the idea of the business board solely for the use of one business to another or a link between businesses on IC and other IC members? As a business I believe having a dedicated page an advantage. How do you use the board?
As the OP says, people post queries about products ("Where can I buy handcuffs like this?") on the Business board even though it's perfectly on topic on, say, the SM/Bondage/Fetish board where it will be seen by a lot more people. That's one of the main uses of the Business board at the moment
Yes, exactly that, but the way it's being used demonstrates there is virtually no interest in that, so I'm looking for a reorganisation that makes it clearer where to post / look for the threads that are being posted there. So would anyone like to set up a job ads group? (or any of the other possibilities outlined in the OP.) Admin Remember: it's only a website |
