Ah! Yay! I'm in! I can finally get on these boards to discuss the (second) love of my life, the tarot. (No prizes for guessing the first love of my life......).

So, first post on these boards..not totally sure what to say. Most of those thus far seem to be on teaching and learning; this will be a bit different, so hope its still acceptable.

If I could have got on a few days ago, I should have been disccussing Imbolc and reading a card or two for the new Celtic spring festival. Not sure if that's still appropriate; but the heck with it, lets do it anyway! Feel free to comment (positively would be nice......) and add your own interpretations to mine. Or just say 'Hi; nice reading.........'!

Imbolc is the old Celtic spring festival, falling in our current calendar on the 1st/2nd of February. It was also Chinese new Year - year of the Rabbit, in case you didn't know, this year. May seem a little early to be celebrating the coming of spring, when the snow still has a month or two when it may be falling; but the old Celts used to look for the good in the heart of things, and they saw that after the winter solstice and with the days beginning to lengthen, and the spring sun at least beginning to have some warmth again, the warmer times of summer would not be so long a -coming in.

I had my own little celebration of this festival with some friends at the weekend, and as part of this we looked at various divination systems, of which my preferred love is the tarot. So lets try a couple or three cards and see what they say of the coming spring; and of us. Obviously, the principle of synchronicity tells us that if you're reading this, its relevant to you; and if you're not, it ain't!

So; first card out - the Magician. Fantastic! One of the major arcana to start us off with the power of the spring time. The Magician knows his/her own worth and power, and is capable of using that knowledge and sense of deep inner meaning to influence his/her own life and those of others. Its going to be a time when you should more easily accept that you are a much more capable and worthwhile individual than you sometimes allow yourself to be. A time for making those new beginnings, and maybe working on the resolutions you made at new year. A time for you to believe in yourself and let your self confidence come out to play!

Next card - 2 of Pentacles; the Lord of Harmonious Change. Often associated with finances, and the need to take care with these, to balance the books and budget, so to speak. Probably good advice for many of us after Christmas! Also, this card says to me that its a good time for you to be working also on balancing the rest of your life. 'All work and no play' is not a good thing; and not enough work and too much leisure can also be detrimental. Work/homelife balance, and making time for the things which are important to us, is the most valuable thing we can achieve. Especially in the area of relationships; an old saying is, 'when you're on your death bed you won't regret not spending more time at work; you will regret not spending more time with those you love'. Good advice.

Lets have one more - 2 of Swords. Whoa! So - you are being told to engage in some sharps play with someone suitable.......And to deal with the troubles and arguments that have been around you. They needn't have been recent ones; maybe there's someone you haven't spoken with for some time as the result of a past disagreement. At the start of this new spring, I feel we're being told to settle the business of the past so that we can move forward with no bitterness or regrets in our hearts. The other name of this card is 'The Lord of Peace Restored'. A nice way to start the new year.

So - hope this was of some interest at least. Love, light and blessing to all.

Thanks for the reading, lovely combination of cards :)

I always wonder how much of a reading is for who or what I am intending it for and how much it is simply all about me! Or at least the interpretation I come up with.

My overall feeling from those cards is pretty much what you said @DarkEnchantment. I get that its about a very powerful ability to work with and then let go of some element of conflict within us, or between us and some person or some idea. From having done that, we can allow the flavour of the season to bring on the beginnings of a significant change in whats around, giving us a stronger opportunity to manifest what we need and wish for - hopefully the same things!

I liked the comment about sharps - can also see the reading as representing creating a situation to make peace with 'pain' in order to receive the kundalini type pleasure. Or benefits by administering 'pain' in a truly balanced way and creative, like a cook would add cayenne pepper and other 'hot' spices perhaps. Could also be somewhat of a switching in roles suggested to move to a higher and more fulfilling level :) Maybe not all benefits immediately forthcoming, but keep working on it as and when.

Maybe thats all about me?

Excellent post about Imbolc.

A friend of mine in the Czech Rep (Bohemia) reads their own version of the cards. She consults them daily and is very spiritual. Thought i would join for an insite to it and learn more Celtic Traditions.

regards, michelle xx

Thanks james. Yes, I'm sure your reading of the 2 of Swords says much about you.......and of course, why not? As I said, synchronicity means that what I am reading will be relevant to whomever reads it; and your additional reading of meaning into the cards specifically to you is a part of the wider process.

My belief is we do our best to get in tune with the person we are reading for, and then let the process take over. Whether you want to call it spirit or whatever, I think that as long as you do your best to 'step out of the way' and focus on the person, you will do pretty well.

Hi DarkEnchantment :)

What a great reading! And oddly relevant to my own life too. The Magician is an important card for me this year, I did a lot of personal development work with the Sun card in 2010 and the Magician is the next step in the process. I'm hoping to 'manifest' a creative project or two and also hope to see a some positive changes this year ;)

It's interesting that you drew the Magician (numbered one) and two cards numbered two... ties in nicely with what you wrote about finding a balance. While reading your post I saw a balance that needs to be made between the needs of the individual and the needs of those around him/her.

The Magician is air, the Two of Pentacles is earth and the Two of Swords is air. Air and earth don't work together very well and the earth card is hemmed in by the other two. Perhaps this represents a conflict or gap between what is imagined (i.e. thought, hoped for) and what's possible (depending on resources)? It could also suggest that ideas need to be shared and manifested in the world, that he/she will have to work hard to make their dreams a reality... perhaps he/she could be so wrapped up in thoughts and ideas that they risk having nothing to show for it?

Out of curiosity, what deck did you use?

Blessings,

Miss Liberty

Hi Miss Liberty; sorry to have been so long in my reply, but I thought my friend magickwolf had already sent one on my behalf! Wierd; not sure what happened there.

Thank you for your kind comments on my reading, and I'm so glad it was of interest to you. I trust your progress on the Magicians path this year will prove fruitful and enjoyable. I was pleased to note your additional comments on the reading, with which I totally agree. There is so much to be found in the cards at so many levels. My favoured deck, which I have used for so many years, is still the Rider-Waite, which I used for this reading. I have others, and use the one to which I am most drawn at the time of reading. May I ask your preferred deck?

Love, light and blessings to you, hoping you are now returned to full health
