The current wisdom in the health industry seems to be that the most effective way to loose weight is to raise your resting metabolic rate, as that way you are consuming calories while doing nothing. All that really means is that a fit strong body uses up more calories than a flabby one. So however much you diet, unless your body is strong, you will get fat again as soon as you increase the calories.

So although burning up calories with running and so on reduces the net calorie intake of the day and is therefore good, it is not as good as turning your body into the kind of body that consumes more calories as its natural way of being. That means being strong. Because of this heavy weights are the exercise of choice. Someone posted a really good link about this recently but i can't find it. Maybe they will re-post it.

So, gym, weights, starting with nautilus style machines but then hopefully finding a friendly person in the weight room to show you how to lift free weights properly. It's an endorphin heaven.

This doesn't mean you'll turn into Olga the shot-putter. Most women don't have the kind of hormones that build bulky muscle. The bulk is fat over the muscles and once that has gone then it's all firm and mean lean-ness.

Apparently!

I actually do know of 2 seperate people that have used a Dominant and a process of punishment/reward encouragement/control etc to help them lose weight.

both successfully in fact. If you really think it would help to have a 'drill sargeant' then find someone. I am ceratain there will be lots of volunteers.

PS- I also don't think that FAT has to be such a horrible insulting word, it's just an adjective, like cold, or friendly, or cconservative etc. However, I happen to think you haave a fucking stellar body. I totally support your desire to get healthier and put your body into a much happier saffer state, but just saying... 'You're hot like woah'

I guess you try too hard, when pianos try to be guitars.

You can and you are.

It's been your decision to take control of your life and body, and that is motivation in itself.

I could bang on about the subject, but my two main bits of advice would be to incorporate changes in your lifestyle that will be maintainable in the long-term.

And secondly, find some exercise you enjoy rather than tolerate. Then it feels like you're not exercising. Bonus!

Good luck chick!

Seconded.

Thank you everyone. I posted this here, on fetlife and even on my facebook (removing the Dom part, of course) to really drill it into people that I know that I want to be fit and healthy.

I have had some amazing responses both publically and privately. I am thankful for each and every single one.

It's going to take planning and motivation but I am going to do it.

Focus on the positive, eh?

I know my goals and what I will achieve. It's now just a case of doing what it takes to get there.

Thank you everyone.

I have lost about two and a half stone in three months. I didn't set out to lose weight but had to change my diet and the amount I ate after the Doc reckoned I was prob suffering from IBS... the choice is between feeling a little hungry at times or suffering agonising stomach cramps.

I am still losing weight btw.

Good luck

Best of luck to you - from what you've said, you're doing it for all the (quote/unquote!) good reasons.

In my experience, getting started is the hardest bit - once the results start coming (and not just weight loss - increased energy, better mood) you're inclined to make better choices with regard to food and exercise.

Go for it, love - nothing to lose but poundage.

I have gone from BMI of 37ish to 29. I say this to show the effectiveness of these words. For me, the key thing was about making lifestyle changes in order to make it stick.

The first thing is the wanting to do it; you clearly do and so you will.

Don't completely deny yourself everything that tastes good. Make it a fortnightly thing or a weekend thing and slowly slowly your attitude to it will change. For me it worked because it was small changes.

On the exercise, I hate gyms so I knew that if I started I would never follow through... so I made a deal. I joined a sport club instead - most are really understanding if you just wanna train with them. Then when I got a little bit fitter, I joined another one; when I got a bit fitter and actually wanted to compete, the motivation overcame the lame shitness of running and with the help of an app - it meant I could combine geekery with running to make it more bearable.

Then, this week, I have started refining my diet further, thanks to some advice from a friend, who is already into it.

So, in conclusion, just set small goals. Hitting those will give you confidence and then you can set new goals and keep the momentum going. There are going to be tough times around the easter/christmas periods or whatever but it's all about the long-term progress.

Edited to update some lame spelling. Saves me editing twice as to the explanation for the first edit.

My partner has lost 3.5 stone since the Autumn

Getting one's weight under control can be a difficult process but certainly not impossible...

as has been touched on... introducing a D/s aspect to things can brighten up a hard slog...

Good Luck :)
