I wonder why most Dommes use the prefix and what was the origin?

I used to think that 'It's always the hangnails of life that drag you down' but sadly the big things can knock you for six too

They don't. They use plenty of other prefixes eg Lady, Miss etc. I got 125 profiles with Mistress, 97 with Miss and 73 for Lady, which puts Mistress well into the minority though it may be the most common.

Rohypnol means never having to say "Would you like another coffee?".
Religion: It makes good people to do bad things.

The correct abbreviation for Mistress is Ms.

Always amuses me when Feminists insist on using it :-)

Many Dommes probably use the term because it reminds men of the strict school mistresses that they experienced as children.

Mrs a title used before the name or names of a married woman. (C17: originally an abbreviation of MISTRESS)

Ms a title substituted for Mrs or Miss before a womans name to avoid making a distinction between married and unmarried women.

There are many theories for why. I am fairly certain it comes from the 1961 episode of "Herge's Adventures Of Tin Tin" called; "Captain Haddock and the Cruel Mistress".

As to when it became a popular title? That's easy; it was last Tuesday.

Anything else I can help with?

I may be in the gutter, but I am looking at the bars.
