When is a pro-sub not a pro-sub? (45)

This post is on the Pro-Mistresses etc web board (moved from Other BDSM).

I had a recent online conversation with a girl who had a profile on "another BDSM site". I cannot remember the exact wording but it went something like this:-

ME: So, what are you looking for?

HER: Well, I'm at university and finding it a bit hard, so what I'm looking for is someone who can help me with my tuition fees and living expenses in return for me being their sub while I'm studying.

ME: So basically you're wanting to be a pro-sub to help you through university?

At this point she got extremely upset at the mere thought that I was suggesting she wanted to be a pro-sub. She most emphatically did not want to be a pro-sub, nor had she any intention whatever of being one - and it was vile and insulting of me to suggest that "being a sub in return for help with tuition fees and living expenses" could in any way be described as such.

So here's the question - is it "vile and insulting" to use the term "pro-sub" for a girl who wants to be a sub in return for such financial "help"? ... because, for the life of me, I really cannot see where doing this is different from being a pro-sub - except, perhaps, that she was seeking such financial "help" from a single man rather than a "clientelle".

FEMALE, BONDAGE-FRIENDLY MODEL SOUGHT. I am seeking to update my "How To" shibari bondage pictures (see my profile pics, the clothed blonde tied in red and black) with a model more "enthusiastic" about BDSM, and who is happy to be photographed nude. MEMO ME if this is you.

Seems like a reasonable description to me.

Alternately she could use the term prostitute.

What she wants is a sugar daddy..but entirely on her own terms by the sound of things.

I think your choice of terminology is far preferable and i can't understand why she should have taken offense.

Oh well..funny old thing this world of hours.

Yes, I think a sugar daddy is just what she needs.

Sounds like a BDSM version of those people who phone you up and tell you that you have won a free holiday that actually costs you a load of money you wouldn't have spent on a holiday that you didn't want. Perhaps she isn't a pro sub and the money she charges is all for admin and insurance costs for domming her.

Also, I tend to let people describe themselves however they want. t

The term "pro-sub" somehow implies seeing multiple clients whereas she is looking for "someone". I can understand why she got upset at your terminology....

Oh, there are plenty of men and women lurking around who are wanting to be live-in houseboys/girls/whatever.

Because of the stigma attached to "certain lines of work" people like to dress things up so that they are more comfortable with them. Sometimes without consciously realisng it. "I'm not a sex-worker/prostitute, I'm a Dominatrix..." (Yes, I have heard it uttered).

The woman you had an exchange with was probably genuinely horrified at your suggestion, because contemplating what she was requesting would mean tarnishing herself with a stigma.

Really, I guess we should all be more concerned about removing the stig...

Was this Nadine23, WillYouPayMyRent or maid4serving?

Nadine23 vanished after a friend sent her some money. Her CM profile suddenly vanished and she never replied to emails.

WillYouPayMyRent was on CM and looked similar. That profile vanished.

maid4serving appeared this weekend on CM and looks very similar!

I agree to me a major part of being a dom is caring for and supporting your sub in becoming the best she can be. That would include enabling her to complete her education.
