I felt it looked a bit flat with a plain white background, so I've changed it to something a bit brighter, more sunny and cheery than before. Also tweaked the "unvisited link" colour to be less abrasive compared to the others. It is worth pointing out that I would not necessarily choose to paint a room in these colours, but for painting my blog, I happen to like them.

This evening I have been watching my pets, which are two cats and a dog, and reflecting on the power relations that exist in their world (or how they express themselves).

The dog is fundamentally submissive, of course. Only a guard dog is expected to be aggressive, and even then he is expected to be submissive at his master's command. My dog has never had such lofty ambitions. As he approaches old age, he has grown more submissive than ever, so that now he will not even turf the cat out of the chair set aside for the dog! Only for food scraps has he become more assertive and dominant, forgetting perhaps that the scraps are given only by the largesse of master, and are not always intended for the dog.

The cat who sits in the dog's chair is Ginge (names changed to protect the not-so-innocent :) ). He is just a bully. I believe he sees the dog as soomehow more powerful than him, and seeks by eating the dog's food, sitting in his chair and rubbing in his scent, to become more doglike. Perhaps Ginge is really a bad, and jealous, sub. Certainly, when it comes to making him swallow his worming tablets, though he puts up a pretence at fighting, he submits meekly when he realises that he is overpowered by the vastly bigger human.

The other cat, "Tiddly" (for her size, all the pets being well over a decade old, she is still sometimes called "Kitten"), is another story altogether. Most simply, she is just a slut for pleasure, fuss, attention - and dashing through closing doors and open windows (I don't understand it). But she possibly has a masochistic streak - at least, she always loses fights but when you turn up to save her, she gives you a really dirty look.

Tiddly is also, most definitely, NOT a submissive. Worming Tiddly is always a struggle from start to finish, and she does not submit to ANYONE. Won't let anyone carry her in their arms at all. And, mouthful of fur that she would be to some of the dogs who once visited here, if ever she felt cornered she would not back down or run away, but prepared to fight.

But basically she is just a slut with a fetish for all- over contact wth my hands. She will submit herself to all manner of undiginified poses to get that pleasure, which makes me feel really nice, relaxed and Dominant when I make a fuss of her.
