For all Stieg Larsson fans:

I saw this over on FetLife, and I thought I would re-post it here.

I'd read that already, but refrained from linking to it on IC, because I knew there were a number of Larsson fans here, and I wasn't sure how such criticism would be received. It didn't encourage me to finish the third book, nor see any of the films. Reason is and ought to be the slave of the passions and can never pretend to any other office than to serve and obey them. |

I don't think that it's *all* critical. And I think that many fans, me included, accept that these are flawed works, but we still love 'em! |

I have picked up the first two and look to start reading them soon...
I fully expect to enjoy them A woman's submission is a gift to be cherished |

i was a little hesitant to read the first book - never sure if hype is truly deserved. I found the book in a charity shop (my usual book hunting place!) so thought I'd have a go The first few chapters were slow.. then i found myself hooked. So much so that I paid full price(aarrgghh!) for the next 2. The second book got me through a flight and it's return, I have developed an unreasonable fear of flying but it distracted me sufficiently. The 3rd took me less than a weekend to read.
The joy of books is that they are not for everyone, no matter the critism or slander or praise or the author - if a book allows me to loose myself for a while and feel inspired, moved or just content then it is a good book - regardless of who wrote it Give me reasons, not choices, or I might make the same mistakes again Edited 22 Jan 11, 6:52 PM by fiestybbw |
