It also depends a little on what you are trying to achieve. J seems to enjoy making pretty patterns and a nice symmetrical layout, so the coloured plastic ones tick the box for that. In terms of sheer pain, the tiny golden plastic ones used for hanging Christmas cards are the weapon of choice, and of course being small means lots can be used (worryingly the bag containing about 50 is still around after taking the cards down last week

There are really small pegs made to hang Christmas cards, as always they hurt more when you take them off. If you really want to "make you mark" go to Maplins (electronics store) and purchase a box of assorted crockodile clips. Practice carefully! There are many different sizes and different spring tensions. You'll know by the "yelp" when you have got it right! I have been on the recieving end of various pegs for CBT purposes, if you want to know more ask away, but be warned I always give very straight answers. | |

The effect of any peg seems to me to be as much about how much skin you include in the pinch. The less that is included, the more painful at any given location for any given peg. The small pegs are sore, but bigger ones can be made sore if only a bit of skin is included. And bigger ones hang with more weight and effect and can be more effectively knocked about or swing if the recipient is made to walk around while they are attached.
