Had an amazing time in London on Saturday...we fitted so much in during the day, no wonder my legs were aching the next day. After leaving home at 5am we had a good journey and arrived in London at the hostel at about 9am. We left the car outside and then got underground tickets to enable us to travel all day which was great.
First of all we went to see Buckingham Palace and we were in time to watch the changing of the Guard, Im too little so I couldnt see the actual procession over everyone's heads but I managed to get into a gap right at the gates to see the actual changing over so I was well chuffed. Then we made our way to the Houses of Parliament and looked at Westminster Abbey which was wonderful, I cried when I looked across the Thames towards Parliament cos the architecture was stunning and I couldn't believe I was actually there.
We seemed to go on lots of underground trains and up and down loads of escalators...made me dizzy. In the afternoon we made our way to the Museum of Natural History where we wandered around looking at Dinosaurs and other interesting things before making our way to Harrods. I bought myself a cheese bun from Harrods cos I was starving...we are butties for lunch on the underground at about 11am so my tummy was rumbling by late afternoon.
Eventually we made our way back to the hostel and got changed ready for the Theatre.
We had booked a table at Tiger Tiger and we were really impressed with both the food and the service....I had prawn and avocado salad and then sirloin steak with creamy pepper sauce....yummy. Son had cheesy garlic bread and a mixed grill and the other two had a starter each and then a veggie dish which they said was lovely.
They do a 50% off deal from 5pm to 10pm every night during January so it only cost us about £16 each with two bottles of wine as well...brilliant value.
Her Majesty's Theatre was just a few minutes away from the Restaurant so we got there in plenty of time to watch Phantom of the Opera...what can I say apart from WOW! We had seats in the balcony and the whole show was amazing ![]()
What really fascinated us all was after we had left the Theatre and were walking back towards the tube station, it was as busy as during the day and not just with young folk either...it was 11pm and it felt as though the City just didn't want to go to sleep. Back at the hostel we were soon in our beds fast asleep cos we had packed so much into one day, we were all exhausted.
Next day (Sunday..blimey was it only yesterday) we walked to a Weather-spoons pub for a huge fried breakfast with extra toast and lashings of coffee before we had a wander around and then set off back home late morning. Unfortunately our lovely weekend had a black spot put on it as we were driving though London, we stopped at a give way sign and a bloke was going too fast, didnt stop in time and smashed into the back of sons girlfriends car. The car looked awful, the boot was caved in and the back light was chipped but it was still ok to drive. We were all shook up obviously but apart from stiff necks and aches we are all ok which is the main thing and after sorting out insurance details we finally made our way back home, arriving back at mine at 5pm, shattered .
So yea, it was a lovely weekend and I enjoyed every minute of it apart from the accident to the car. Would love to visit the Tower of London so maybe we will get back there again sometime tho ive a feeling that we would be using the train next time !

Glad you had a fabby time...most unfortunate about the accident though...but thankfully it seems no one was hurt...and i do hope that hasnt put you off from coming to visit again..so many wonderful things to do...and if you get down in the summer so many beautiful, wonderful parks to visit with picnic in hand AB If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary-wise; what it is it wouldn't be, and what it wouldn't be, it would. You see? |
