A couple of weeks ago I blogged that my tropical fish had had 2 young which had survived being eaten by their parents
I've now discovered 5 more baby fish lurking in the background - smaller than the others and obviously more recently born (Normally swordtails give birth to dozens of fish at one time)
Now I have to make some decisions. The tank isn't large enough to support 7 new fish when they grow, neither do I have room for another tank
The only thing I can think of is to "dispose" of the fully grown parents (which still leaves 7 snall fish which of course will grow) Hope that the parent's see and eat the small fish, or to "dispose" of the 5 newcomers
Decisions decisions

Now this is going to sound brutal. And brutal it is. But... Out with the old, in with the new... Hey Thunder don't shoot me - the way I see it is the parents have had a shot at life, they've had a little time? Now the youngsters deserve the same?!

Yeah, you know it makes sense... just give the parents a good slap when they're not looking

Take the young to a pet shop or sell them privately.

Surely you could at least give away the unwanted ones?

We are talking about tropical fish which require heated, filtered tanks etc. The fry at the moment are a few mm long. Though I have a petshop locally they only stock coldwater fish like goldfish. No-one I know locally keeps tropical fish ^Thunder^

LOL interesting site though the "parents" are really too old to be of interest and the fry too small (most people advertising on there appear to be breeders with loads of stock) Worked out now how I can put a "full size" tank here (as you may know a tank + gravel + gallons of water etc. isn't something that can be moved once set up & too heavy to put on most furniture) In the New Year I'll probably get one and by the time the fry are full size probably transfer them to the new tank (as well as getting other breeds to go in there)
