On reading @mia's weblog on people getting home for Christmas, she got me thinking and as my thoughts are way off on a tangent, I decided to write something here instead of posting nonsense on her weblog.
Somewhere over the last few years, it has all changed to be about what we bring to our parents and not what they make Christmas like for us anymore. It is quite shocking that it has changed as for years, although I have hated the family gathering thing (as my family just don't "see" me and don't get me started on the evil sister and her useless family), there have been things that my mum has brought to it for me. Like our naughty tradition of sitting up and waiting until the clock strikes midnight on Christmas Eve and then pouncing on our presents like naughty and deranged children!
Then suddenly it is all about caring for them. And then about caring for TT's parents, and throw in snow and we are all in a panic (well I am, TT is pragmatic to the bitter end) about whether we will make it to them. Add to that last minute changes to plans last night after hearing of illness, which is worrying in itself, we have to rearrange and again, I am so worried we won't be able to pull it off and get across the Pennines to fulfill our responsibilities of bringing them the happiness and experience they want and actually deserve after fulfilling all we have to with my tribe.
Many people would read this and say f*ck it, do what you want and sod them all. I just wouldn't dream of it. Of course, in our dream world (and my we have spoken of this several times over the last few months) we would be in our home having Christmas as we want it. Everyone says Christmas is all about the kids, I keep being reminded that in our world, Christmas is for parents 
. And so we are bending over backwards, sideways and diagonally to make sure that they get what they want, and I know it is the right thing to do and that kind of makes it all alright 
I am sure TT would take back everything he has said on the matter thus far as my dad has him in the loft this very minute helping to sort out his lagging. I'm most entertained
