I'm so pleased that someone has acknowledged the Captain's passing. I was going to lose my posting virginity and start a post- but then puzzled over which category, got distracted and the world moved on. Played Safe as Milk and TMR again to mark the occasion and recalled the one time that I saw him play live. It was a student gig in early summer 1974. He had just sacked his band before coming on tour to the UK (cracking start, that) and assembled a new version of the Magic Band who were the tightest most disciplined collection of musicians and just thunderously good. One of the few artists of whom we can say "he was a genuine original". |
