I didn't see the post about Alpha subs but that thinking makes perfect sense to me... Yes, love the thought of an Alpha sub... What a gorgeous concept!!! "The art of being a Gentleman is knowing when not to be"

I know lots of very strong, capable 'Alpha female' subs does that make them therefore your Queen and the more innocent/necessitous 'Beta females' your wench? In my fantasy kingdom there is only a Queen no need for Kings with wenches and jesters aplenty ~ evil Disney witch cackle.

Not sure if she is a switch, more likely she is very strong in the day-to-day world but certainly submissive to me. I think your comparison of the alpha and beta females is probably absolutely spot on...
There are of course evil queens that the fair prince needs to kill in order to become King... "The art of being a Gentleman is knowing when not to be" Edited 9 Dec 10, 3:41 PM by TheSilverFox

That makes perfect sense. One can of course analyse it ad nauseam, to the whole realm, but it doesn't really advance the core principle. The queen as submissive to her king, but that submission invisible to the rest of the kingdom. As analogies go, I like it.

I already have my Queen and am very happy with her
but there is nothing wrong with having a wee serving wench as well

My understanding of the roles is somewhat different: I see a serving wench as the one who is capable, strong and not in the least bit submissive - obedient, maybe, but not submissive. A Queen, on the other hand, is a pampered, useless figurehead, good for looking good and not much else. A serving wench is a woman of the world, who knows what she wants in terms of bodily pleasures and is more than willing to share it with her chosen lover. A Queen is at best inexperienced and uninterested in such things, and at worst uses her body purely as a political tool to get her way, seeing it not as a source of pleasure but a bargaining chip. I know which I would rather have at my side and in my bed! But then, I would never cast myself as the King role anyway, except sometimes in short-term roleplay scenes.
