due to the removal of the IC chatroom facility I have taken the liberty of starting an IRC chatroom for the cardiff munch. Please note that all are welcome, irrespective of whether they attend a munch (cardiff or otherwise) or not. Ideally I would like to keep the clientele to UK based :p
browser based chatrooms are generally slow and unreliable so I feel that an IRC (Internet Relay Chat) based room is preferable. Due to IRC's nature the room is accessible to all, irrelevant of operating system (windows / mac OS X / Linux / Bizarre other) or platform - the room can even be accessed from smartphones - iPhone / Android / Blackberry etc.
You can access the room via web-based irc services (no particular recommendation made, but they do exist) or via dedicated software - my experience is with mIRC on windows or Colloquy for mac (what I'm using now). There are many very basic tutorials on the net as regards how to download and install these programs, connect to the chat server, and create a username, over the next few hours/days I will edit this post to add some helpful links.
so, to cut to the chase, point your IRC client at: irc.bondage.com Port: 6667 and the room is #cardiffmunch
If you have any questions, please feel free to post them to this weblog, which can then double as an FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions).

mIRC - the most popular windows IRC client can be downloaded from www.mirc.com Colloquy - an easy to use mac IRC client can be downloaded from www.colloquy.info both are free for computers. Colloquy also has ipad and iphone app available, £1.19 from the app store. other free irc clients available on the app store. Miss ::: You shouldn't get stressed, it's bad for you.... you can visit the room without registering a username. registering a username means that no one else can pinch that name, it will be password protected to you. there is no charge for username registration. someone has just asked me if the chatroom has adverts. using either mirc or colloquy there will be no adverts, if the chatroom is accessed via another method, for example web-based irc client then that site may feature advertisements. For those who don't want to install an irc client - I highly recommend the web-based mibbit.
www.mibbit.com I'll be there when I can, but you'll probably all be asleep! Edit to add: mIRC tries to charge you, but you don't have to pay. Just ignore the messages! Edited 12 Dec 10, 5:43 AM by LilyOfTheValley |
