Hoping for a little help here, I'm getting myself very confused. I'm starting work with an escort agency soon. Now I know, escorting is legal. Advertising myself for sexual services is legal. The agency advertising me for sexual services is illegal. So, if I advertise myself, with a link, or phone number to book through my agency... can I mention sexual services without getting them in trouble? I've noticed most pro types specifically state that they don't offer sexual services, is leaving that out enough of a hint? Why are our laws on prostitution so messy?!?! Oh and do the same laws apply across all of the U.K.? Thanks in advance for any help. Rose

Can I ask why would you advertise and link to an agency? Is the agency not promoting you themselves through their own website? Any reputable agency will have this facility that's what your really paying for not for them to find you clients as you'll be waiting along time for that. If your advertising on a different site or your own then why do you have to take your bookings through the agency? Don't. Take them directly and save the booking fee you'll be charged. If the agency are stating that you have to make bookings through them and only them then I would think twice about using that agency. The agency wont allow any sexual content/description or details of services on your profile as this is Illegal. If you link from another site, which there are loads that you can use and leave the details your looking at then NO you shouldn't as it would be classed as them acting on your behalf and soliciting you which again is illegal. If you don't want clients having your contact details then buy a pay as you go mobile and use that for escorting. If you are only looking to take bookings through the agency and looking to link to them through other sites etc.. speak to the agency for advise I'm sure they will put you right.

I'm going with an agency mostly for the support and safety aspects rather than the advertising and webspace they provide. Bookings that go through them will be subject to their safety checks, they have reliable drivers (who don't demand payment in anything other than cash), they run safety calls, etc. I'd much prefer to earn a little less, and stay safe. As I've got profiles and such on a number of sites, it seems sensible to stick up a link on them. Guess I shall just have to be careful what I write! Thanks @OllieVW , I shall double check with the agency, but I'm pretty sure you're right. Rose

YES Rose, your personal safety is very important and it is worth earning that little bit less so as to be able to make it a priority. But, are you not able to take these concerns you have to them? They should be there to support you because at the end of the day, are you not employing them to act on your behalf as your agent? Some agencies are better than others I would imagine. A good many people who run agencies could not give a shit about the people on 'their books', and some of the people running these concerns are just after £££££. Make sure they are delivering what they promise. That they 'walk the talk'. I remember when a friend of mine worked through an escort agency that there was an emergency number to call if you went on a 'date' and needed them, except that there was no one at the other end of the phone after midnight...... and that was when there were a lot of late bookings!! I once met an agency manageress as I considered escorting (I was also 22) but chickened out. I was desperate to earn some money, but not that desperate. She gave me the impression that anyone she passed my way I would have to see and deal with or I would be black listed!! I felt very uncomfortable with that. I may have been naive but I was not totally stupid....... and ran.
They also have favorites. My same friend moans all the time about how they never book her because she is not As you may have gathered........ I am not a fan of escort agency owners. The more freedom you are able to acquire when engaging in sex work, the more money you will make in the long run. The more controlled you are, by people who make out they are 'helping you', the more money you make for others at a greater personal cost to yourself.
I am sure you are a sensible worldly young woman Rose, but I can feel my maternal instincts, being 47 years old, coming into play here SO TO RECAP - THERE ARE MANY NASTY INDIVIDUALS OUT THERE WHO ARE EXPLOITATIVE OF YOUNG WOMEN. A GOOD MANY OF THEM GRAVITATE TOWARDS RUNNING THESE SORTS OF BUSINESSES. YOU NEED TO HAVE YOUR WITS ABOUT YOU AS IT IS YOU, YOUR MIND, EMOTIONS AND BODY ON THE LINE, NOT THEIRS!!! P.S. Regarding the law, The English Collective of Prostitutes http://www.prostitutescollective.net/ are one resource that have up-to-date info on legal issues affecting sex workers Rose. They are also excellent if you ever find yourself needing help or support in the future. "It's not what people say, but what they DO that counts" Edited 24 Nov 10, 2:05 AM by cough_cough

Thank you for your concern, and warnings. Believe me, I've done a lot of research into this. The choices I've made, about who I'll work with and how I'll work, I've spent a lot of time considering. I wouldn't be doing anything I felt uncomfortable about. The agency I'll be working with are brilliant, ran by a woman who has suffered at the hands of bad agency owners herself. I'll admit... I posted this here as I'd just thought of it after sending her a mammoth list of questions. She's been so kind and supportive, I didn't want to bother her with yet another question which I was fairly sure someone on here would be able to answer. Thanks again, Rose

You obviously are far more worldly and wise than my friend is Sex work is either a profession that you make work for you...... or it gobbles you up! A sensible head on your shoulders, with a good agency there to support you...... the world is your oyster Rose. "It's not what people say, but what they DO that counts"

Your welcome I had some great times with some interesting people, i know its different for females and I didnt do Bi and never had a situation that I needed to end the night early so fingers crossed youll expereince the same. I only ever met clients in hotels so there was some kind of trace on the person I was meeting, the agencies I used vetted the clients and I was given the chance to decide if the client would benefit from my company. Its not all dark and dangerous and nobody I personaly know who escorts has had any major situations. An agency is the best way but no gurantee just go with your instincts. Also ask the agency what safety measures they have in place for weekend of oversea travelling. They should have a system in place to keep in contact with you to ensure your safety.
