Actually, that probably is appropriate - and true. Leaders are rarely emollient enough to be ambassadors.

Indeed. Though if a leader was truly worth their salt, they would recognise the prudence in delegation to someone better suited...

Granted, this is a tricky one if the leader in question believes they can do the job. Plus, by the very virtue of Being that leader, people are already looking to them, have respect and time for them and their opinions..

Still, nowt wrong with ideallism.

A lot of the names already mentioned are well worthy and amount to Fetish/Bdsm Royalty.

But the first Ambassador for the Scene Has to be Captain Zip.

I think Captain Zip had his own fetish take on the "Groucho Marx and private Clubs" attitude.

If he was n't on the guest list it was n't worth going to.

There are huge and contradictory differences of opinion within the "community". As such, no one ambassador, representative, or champion could possibly speak for everyone. Even the legality of what people do, or their right to do it without fear of losing their jobs etc is contentious (some people prefer the thrill of the taboo).

Everyone should be an ambassador for their own interests, if they want to be.

I'd also add Lindi St Clair to those from the past

Generally, though, I agree with other posters (lately xjames) that no one person could speak for the entire BDSM spectrum
