Its Cancer yet again!!!!!!! (6)

After 10 years of being free from cancer after a double diagnosis of the disease within 12 months how unlucky can one person be.We have just found out that my mother has yet again been diagnosed with cancer, this time in her right lung.I have been in bits the last couple of days just pondering the implications of the diagnosis.

As i have a medical background my mother, rightly or wrongly, puts all her trust in me knowing whats best for her.I try not to be high and mighty about my medical knowledge and make sure its what my mother wants and the decisions made are right for her,but she defaults to my opinion.I do ensure that my two brothers are consulted and are fully aware of the facts so that decisions are made as a family and do not fall entirely on myself. As my mother is 85 her willingness to discuss rationally all angles is not all it should be,but she would rather hide her head in the sand. This she has done on numerous occasions hoping the problem will go away. Now my mother is quite a fragile old lady just yet,but one has to make decisions for her which she accepts without question.

Along with this new diagnosis mother needs surgery on her eyes, but this has been put off for the time being and is probably the best decision in view of the circumstances. We have to wait now for further tests to establish exactly what the cancer is and which is the best treatment for her and how to progress.

I am anxious and worried for mum,i love her dearly and dont want her to suffer unduly, but how much of a kicking can one woman take?

Regards Andy

:(, there is so little that anyone can say to something like this. I'm sure that you, your family and the medical professionals will do all they can to make the decisions and take the best actions possible for your mum.

Hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

Gary.
