Think about it: let's say a domme charges £ 100 an hour and has one client a day with Sunday off and a month off for holidays. This means she isn't making much more than the national average after tax and her expenses on clothes and equipment. It probably explains why some dommes have second jobs, live on council estates, etc. Yes some who cater for well off subs, have their own DVDs for sale and let out a dungeon will be well off, but I'm sure most dommes aren't well off and people should be aware if this.

Yes, that is quite right, most pro dommes are not rolling in it. They lead very mundane, ordinary lives away from sessioning. I do, most other dommes I know do.

They have the day-to-day chores, the housework, looking after children, maybe popping out to the gym if they are lucky, having a cheap holiday once a year (again if they are lucky). They are just regular down to earth women, trying to get by and keep on top of the never ending bills, just like the vast majority of other people.

But, for those out there who have negative thoughts/feelings about sex workers they will look for ways to justify their nastiness.

As the more street wise, established dommes point out to women who think pro-domming leads to a fast buck...... reconsider, as they will be sadly disappointed, disillusioned and pack it all in within 6 months.

Too right, I wish more people on here could understand this. I don't think £ 100 is much to ask, considering the domme might not get another sub for another few days.

My fee is higher, but then my chamber is in the London area, zone 2...... and everything is much more expensive than a good deal of the rest of the UK. I most properly end up with the same profit, as a comparable domme out of London, after clearing tax, expenses etc.

Had sciatica for 2 weeks, even when the phone rang, could not session then. And a good many clients are not going to wait around, there are lots of gorgeous talented women pro-domming, I'm not special. A few will call back when you are well, but most just ring someone else's number. 'That's the name of the game'.

And sometimes the times potential clients want to come overlap, so can't take both bookings. Don't have my mobile on during session, so miss others who are trying to get through.

Pro-domming is NO money spinner and there is A LOT of behind the scene work that has to be kept on top of if you are going to provide a professional service and have something to show for all the hard work put in.

Not true. You can claim for extreme items which might include some Rubber and PVC wear but I have been counselled that it is unwise to claim for anything more mainstream. In this case mainstream would probably include, for example, a leather skirt. You can claim that you would never wear such an item in your everyday life but the tax man might not agree.

I know that the choice of outfit is a big thing for club nights and they don't come cheap so, although enjoyable for all, it can be extremely expensive. Having the tax man pay for at least 20% of it must be an incentive for any domme to go pro.

The legal case Mallalieu v Drummond was lost by a Barrister who wanted to claim the cost of her black work suits as she never wore them in her private life. I suspect if it could be proved that you wore an outfit to a Club then you would stand zero chance of claiming that it was for work wear only - unless you were employed at the club or were paid to appear.

If I might add here - when I say I was 'Counselled' I mean that I took professional advice from a qualified Tax specialist. I would highly recommend that anyone with any tax questions do the same and not base serious financial decisions on the advice of anyone here - me included!

It's not unwise to claim for disputable items, it's a game, a gamble, you have to treat it like such. Sure the taxman might not agree, your advisor/accountant then has a little barter with him, worst ways it will be disallowed as a business expense but worth a try if you genuinely believe in and will argue for what you're claiming. I imagine in the case of a domme with an extensive fetish wardrobe for work it would be worth it. In the case of a mainstream item like a leather skirt, if it was kept in a separate wardrobe / chest with lots of similar items for theatrical costumes / "sex therapist consultant business wear" I imagine you'd be fine. If you know you sometimes wear it to a normal club or supermarket then don't claim for it.

As for very specialist fetish clubs / markets, these could be claimed as business expenses, including travel, taxis, hotel accomodation and any food on the hotel bill (for you only, not any partner) if you can display these are neccessary for your business, in the same way as other business events. You don't have to be paid to appear, just be able to demonstrate that you were going to forge business connections, negotiate deals, etc. Whilst against many club policies, so perhaps you shouldn't actually tout vigorously, having business cards made up to distribute at the event and collecting cards / keeping details of trade suppliers (whom you were there to meet by appointment and negotiate trade discounts with) will help support and validate your claim.

I'm not a tax advisor / accountant but this is the gist of what my own guy has told me with relation to other self-employed work I do. This would apply equally to trips abroad by the way, but bear in mind the need to validate it with proof of pre-arranged business meetings so it doesn't appear to be just a holiday. Arrange a few appointments with owners of local dungeons (and collect business cards, headed letters for example) that "you may be arranging to use to see international clients" before embarking on your trip. The taxman has to take seriously your plans for international business expansion!
