The Aberfan Disaster was 44 years ago today . 116 children and 28 adults .
I am the same age as the children who died . It was on a Friday and I was on half term . I think I'm right in saying that if the disaster had happened the following Monday those children would have been on half term and would not have died .
The National Coal Board who were responsible for the deaths raided £150000 from the Disaster Fund to remove the coal tips .
Spare a thought .

Another one of a similar age.
My mother was a primary school teacher, did some of her teacher training in Wales. I remember her weeping over the news on our black and white telly |

Although, I was too young to remember it, I do remember my parents and grandparents talking about it. I do spare a thought. M: Its only a baby needle, you wont know the difference. I am not a one dimensional needle obssessed domme... |

I remember too - although I'm not sure if my memory is contemporaneous or not. Many of the parents of those doomed children are alive and I can only imagine how painful the anniversary of their death must be for them. It's worth bringing to mind instances like this when we're decrying the 'stupidity' of modern Health and Safety legislation. Today, someone might have questioned the logic of placing slag heaps near buildings, even if the only motive was fear of being sued.

Although only two and a half at the time, I remember it very clearly quite simply because my mother and grandmother were crying their eyes out. "A genuine passion is like a mountain stream; it admits of no impediment; it cannot go backward; it must go forward."
