Let me start on a positive! The third Dystopia couldn't have happened had it not been for the team, who between them provide ideas, skills & knowledge, time, equipment and bloody hard work. This time, the team comprised of:
@Irrepressible_Red, @Shy_Sarah, @popi, @Noise, @DeviantJay, @Tanos, @mia, @TheProf, @Plum_Tarte, @Prince_Harming, @EddyMonster, @Motley, @dizzy_lizzard @redimp, @Gentle_Obscura as well as many other people who pitched in along the way (My subtle way of catching any names I may have forgotten Once again, it's amazing to receive such amazing feedback. We work hard to create something special for everyone and I'm so happy that it's not been in vain! The event itself takes a lot- the nature of the sort of venues we use mean that an awful lot of work needs to be done; work which began on Wednesday of last week and only just finished last night. They're not the sort of venues that simply require me to turn up, open the door and take people's entrance fee; the nights are theatrical & excessive; aesthetically beautiful & entertaining and the attention that goes into the play spaces allow people to express themselves freely. We also provide an awful lot, including food, completely free of charge, whilst trying to keep the cost of attending as low as possible. It would seem, however, that the very fact that Dystopia is so popular has ruffled a few sceney feathers. For a while now, we've been aware of a few people who deliberately set out to spread negativity about Dystopia and the team, as well as a whole load of bile about me, but we've risen above it and not given it any attention. I've long since stopped being upset by bullies and those with personal agendas. Saturday afternoon, however, saw two police officers arrive at the mansion responding to an anonymous report by a member of IC who had used every angle that they thought would get the police to take action against us; we don't have an alcohol license….there will be drugs on the premises….we will be engaging in BDSM activity, which is effectively GBH….. I had a long and honest chat with the police, allowing them to investigate the venue and explaining what we were all about, they happily left and wished us a successful evening. We're very transparent about what we're doing; I have nothing to hide. It's a shame that not everyone else can say the same. What is upsetting is the fact that someone out there is so eaten up with bitterness that they would not only prevent everyone else having some where they enjoy but risk having our patrons brought to the attention of the police for practising BDSM. It's not only odd and hypocritical, it's just about the lowest thing you can do to the scene in my opinion. Happily, it backfired tremendously and the police have been wonderful- and very helpful! So, the heating, toilets and overcrowded play spaces are areas that need attention and will be addressed. Plans are already being laid; firstly we're looking at massive expansion as the numbers have soared. The amount of newbies we're attracting is brilliant (women who are new to the scene, yet happy to attend alone, is an excellent endorsement in anyone's book!) especially as they get the chance to know some of the scene veterans and watch some very experienced players. There were times over the last week, when exhausted, grumpy and skint, I've said 'Never again'. I'm a stubborn fucker. We're not going anywhere. Edited Tue 19 Oct 10, 6:58 PM by Miss_Despotic

That's awful Well done for turning the situation around though!

Good for you! Success always carries this risk ... you just have to rise above it, which you obviously are doing.
And for heaven's sake: don't go anywhere until I've got there Keep tough!

Heroic is the only word I can think of to describe what you've been through and done. For every hater there must be a hundred very happy supporters. One person's fish is another person's poisson

And we'll be there with you. It's the best event in the North and the faces of people who walk in for the first time and see the magic of a venue that's had days of real hard graft spent on it make everything worth it. The number of scene newbies that I spoke to on Saturday who were blown away was wonderful. No amount of jealousy, lies or scheming is going to make any difference. I love Dystopia and am proud to be a small part of it. Bring on event number 4! :D A kiss with a fist is better than none.

I can imagine that there are a number of stay-at-homes who won't like the event happening. And a few people who will have personal issues with one or other of the crew. I can think of a couple of suspects, but it makes no difference who I think it is. Memo the address to all attendees on request in future, rather than publish? |
