At a recent munch the dangers of using Hitachi Magic Wands were seriously discussed as 'liable to catch fire and cause serious burns' Apparently they have been sold without the CE label, the mark that confirms their suitability for use in the EU / UK. The reason seems to be that they are designed for use in Japan and the USA, where the voltage is 110, but also the frequency is 60Hz. The transformers that have been provided with them may change the voltage up to 230, but apparently do not alter the frequency correctly, so they overheat and can catch fire or cause burns. Does anyone know better, or should we all take note and watch out? 'To Oblivion, and beyond!'

You're all going to die! Ah semen. What is it about that ridiculous white secretion that pulls down the corners of an Englishman's mouth?

My transformer gets hot and therefore I do not leave it plugged in. Having said that I don't need to use it for long. In my opinion the only reason hitachi wands are dangerous is because they are so addictive. Lady Emma

was any electrical device dangerous before the CE mark came in? does having this mark make it safe? personally iv been using 240v to 100v transformers for years even before that CE mark crap came out.. never had a problem before It's the submissives that show to others what type of Dom owns them..

Too right they are dangerous. If I had a lower level of self preservation I would have wanked myself to death by now! On a note akin to the other replies, I do unplug mine as the black box, if that is the transformer, does get a little warm. Never had it on long enough to find out if it gets hot! It is not what you say or do but the way you say or do it

Rubbish. Either a device has a synchronous AC motor or it doesn't (eg async motor) If it has a sync motor then running a 50Hz motor off 60Hz supply, or running a 60Hz motor off a 50Hz supply, means a significant proportion of the power absorbed is converted directly into heat within the motor, leading to premature and possibly spectacular*** motor death... it also means excess (above rated) power is also drawn as the motor tries to run at an impossible sync speed. FYI a transformer will transform voltage, not frequency (Hz). The only practical solution is to buy (from USA or China for use in the USA) and DC/AC inverter rated for 110-120 VAC @ 60Hz output and 12 VDC input, and run it off a car battery. *** spectacular can mean any / all of smoke, flames, and electrical shorts to the rotor / stator / any metallic / conductive materials. For devices also connected to a transformer it means higher than rated loads while the motor runs, and then possible spectacular transformer failure when the motor dies, depending on the manner of motor failure. A RCD may be enough to save your life, nothing will save the motor in question, it is just a question of time.

Yes or else there wouldn't be a CE mark. Safety regulations are like warning road traffic signs, they come about because someone gets hurt. Why don't cash machines have a Gamble button? |
