Strangulation  (8)

I/we like to participate in strangulation in various forms. Either by hand or by implement (belt / rope, etc.). I love it, it's one form of play that I really wouldn't like to have to live without, and I relatively often get to blacking out stage during play.

My issue is, and I wonder if anyone else suffers the same, is what it does to my face. The pressure seems to burst some of the blood vessels in my face, resulting in me looking like a blotchy mess after playing. It looks almost like bruising, all over my face, mostly my forehead and down the sides of my face. Sometimes some vessels in my eyes go too.

There's no effects afterwards, apart from the visual, but it's not always convenient having to walk around looking like I've been strangled, or having a skin problem. It lasts about four or five days, and to a certain extent I can cover it with makeup but the first couple of days it's still visible.

I used to do a lot of strangulation play in a long term relationship I had in my 20's. My problem developed then. Have I knackered my blood vessels through excessive play, or is it just the way I'm made? Does anyone else have this problem?

It always goes back to normal after a number of days, so there's no permanent damage, but I've never come across anyone else who has had this problem. It only occurs with strangulation / pressure around the neck, never with 'normal' breathplay.

Any ideas for prevention, or am I stuck with it? I'd appreciate any feedback...

Nobody has posted on this one, so I thought I would.

Funny how some subjects provoke a flurry of response where you wouldn't particularly expect it (I'm thinking about the peeing outdoors thread) and others that you'd have thought would spark people off, like this one, don't.

I expect that a lot of people are like me in that strangulation isn't something that I'm particularly into myself and actually is something that I'd tend to be a bit wary of, but perhaps they don't want post in case they sound like the nanny state safety police.

Because it isn't really my kink I can't myself offer any practical tips about it, but perhaps if there are medics out there they could explain what is happening. The burst blood vessels etc. sound a worrying to me as a lay person, so it would be good to understand what is really happening here physically.

Anyway perhaps my contribution, while not adding much directly, might jog someone else who can.

I was also surprised this post attracted no comment, on this of all groups.

I suspect the burst blood vessel thing is just the way the OP is. We all bruise differently and more/less conveniently in certain parts.

I have had a little of this kind of horridness and would like more. Last time was both thumbs on my voice box and later a webbing strap pulled tight round my neck, while other things were going on.

I utterly loved it. Somehow, the rattly, difficult breathing, the genuine fear of how far it would go, while looking into his eyes throughout and knowing I trusted him totally, wherever he wanted it to go. Kind of hoping he wanted it to go to a point where I blacked out. Mmm. A pain thing, a submission thing, a trust game thing. Very powerful. Especially if you have constriction/claustrophobia/panic issues. Which I do.

I'd like to hear some advice from people who really know what they are doing with this stuff though.

Does anyone REALLY know? There's no body of medical knowledge, only experience from play and from abuse, and it's too disparate to form a cohesive whole.

Which is a shame because it's such a wonderful to do and have done. I like to go deeper and deeper with it, but acknowledge that it is dangerous.

It is documented that irritability results from hypoxic events such as prolonged strangulation or blackout, the result of actual brain damage (on the brain / skull interface), the damage equivalent to a binge drinking session, so the recommendation is, allegedly, don't do this more than once a week.

I was played two weeks ago quite deeply and suffered spells of dizziness in the following week, a little scary, but which might have been related to general fatigue, or not. Accompanied by some internal bruising to the throat, but happily, not externally visible. But now, all seems to have settled down.

Any other experiences to share / pool?

I can't comment from personal experience, but this website has some information: http://www.ehow.co.uk/how_4947638_heal-popped-bl...

Give me another 5 years of the throat grabbing, gargly, ouchy breath play that I am into, and I will tell you if I look like Alex Ferguson on a cold December morning...

I suspect that it's more genetic than as a result of prolonged, extreme play. And I also imagine that it is a bitch to try and disguise!

Further proof of the pleasure/ pain balance :-)

I have no answers to this, but it might make you feel better to know that it happens to me too. I've always just accepted it like other marks that get left during play, though I'll agree it is a bit of a pain :(

Compliance for fun? Hell yes.

I have never had this before, but my play partner did. We did some heavy-ish breathplay and throat fucking with a strap-on for quite a long time...the next day his face was a mess with red dots everywhere, mostly around the eyes.I think they can also occur after epiletic fits for the same reason... Hope thats kind of helpful x
