I wonder what the accident/injury/death rate in surburban S&M dungeons is compared to other forms of sport/hobby - such as base jumping, parachuting, point to point etc. I have no stats on this, but something inside tells me it is alot lower.

It's impossible to tell what the true rate is, but certainly there's no room for complacency. It's a very sad case, but isn't there a learning point here that they should have been able to release him (at least to enable him to breath) more quickly?

No crime, but sounds rather negligent or amateur.
I don't think true stats can be derived, I guess in a lot of cases that if someone has a heart attack while engaged in bdsm, the gag, whip, cuffs etc are straight back in the box under the bed before calling the cops...wouldn't most people...

My condolences to all involved. It could have been any one of us in that situation.
Reading down the comments under the S*n article, the only genuine one there seemed to be the guy who said at least he passed away doing something he enjoyed. Nuff said. Supplier of classic motor omnibuses for weddings and all sorts of events in the south of England.

Carol, I understand that your friends won't want to talk about this this much so without giving too many details away, do you know what problem they had that led to this going wrong? Was the steel collar too tight, or perhaps they couldn't find a knife to cut him down quickly enough? Strangulation can occur quite quickly.

As you can read the Coroner's verdict was 'misadventure'. His heart failed. Whether it would have failed if he were going for a walk or if it was just because he was enjoying sex no one knows! His cuffs and collar were fixed to a frame, he was not hanging. The collar did not asphyxiate him. There were no charges brought against Anne and Colin. Had the collar asphyxiated him that would have been manslaughter.

Should they be prosecuted, or even given blame? Well, from the description, unfortunately they should.

People Wiser and better informed than you decided there was no crime. |

| Thank you Carol. I feel desperately sorry for the couple, the man and his family. It's a tragedy for all concerned and even the Sun's report of the way the couple dealt with the incident shows that they acted utterly conscientously and responsibly. It's only a weblog

I think it would have been unlawful killing - an inquest only determines the cause of death, the facts. And all men kill the thing they love, By all let this be heard,
Some do it with a bitter look, Some with a flattering word,
The coward does it with a kiss, The brave man with a sword!

I find it appalling too that they also showed a photo of their house. It is as though they made every conceivable attempt to make sure they were identifiable and easily found.

The editorial staff of The Sun really are horrible people, and their work is a national disgrace.
|
A friend of mine was murdered and the Sun went to town on the family going into more detail than could possibly be in the public interest.
The Sun are the scum of the earth and it's readers should stop buying their daily edition of toilet paper! Want to read the news look on line or buy a real newspaper!
