How about help for hero's and the wood street mission which was a charity that excalibur49 was heavily involved in and around this time of year he would work his backside off for it.

Seconded! Ive assisted in Excalibur49's heart felt Mission, its a wonderful cause. Children come first in my opinion and also help for hero's is again very much in need of charitable funds.

I wish you well in your choices x

What is the Wood Street Mission please?

The mission in Wood Street, I imagine.

HFH aides all of the military and their families, rather than just one service.

Yes, but it ignores most other heroes in society, including ones who don't kill people. I tend not to give to military charities, though I am awed by some acts of outstanding heroism. Likewise I don't give to what I think of as "sentimental" animal charities (donkey sanctuaries etc.) though we support broader environmental action.

There's so much worthwhile work going on, and one can't support everything.

I was pointing out the difference between the Army Benevolent Fund and HFH, and how the latter is more encompassing if you want to give to a military charity.

"Bottom line: it's couples who are truly right for each other wade through the same crap as everybody else, but the big difference is they don't let it take them down. One of those two people will stand up and fight for that relationship every time."

And I'm sorry but it's exactly this sort of nitpicking that took certain charities out of the shortlist. I just want to donate some money to a good cause, the arguments spoil the whole objective. The money will be going to a good cause. Full stop.

MistressJuliaPink,,,

No matter what is said here,, you and your decision to donate 'full stop' means you are a caring woman. No replies are worth feeling that your decision is in any way wrong.

CAAN & Wood Street will be so grateful to recieve anything you may have spare,,, and for one, I admire & thank you for showing your kindness xx

Hi Julia

Thanks for this :-) CAAN is not a charity, it's just a network of people which operates via our activist's donated time and skills - we try and find a way so that anyone who wishes to join in can. Materials which cost money usually get covered with what we have in our own pockets and donated resources like printing etc.

That way our activities keep focussed on taking action, raising awareness, finding advisors and supporting people directly.

Anything you donate is very much appreciated and will go towards paying for the book we recently printed to reimburse the activist who gave us a loan, cos we needed real money for that. ( http://www.caan.org.uk/beyond.html )

In solidarity

De (for CAAN)

QUOTE -A BDSM charity.

May I point out that none of the four groups mentioned above is a Registered Charity - that is a charity registered with The Charity Commission, the independent regulator of charities in England and Wales.

The four groups are Campaigning organisations / support groups doing very valuable work helping with issues within the BDSM scene.

Sorry if this sounds pedantic but there are very significant differences between a charity and a organisation / group and the way they are run and regulated.

May I wish you well in your efforts to raise money for a worthy cause - my vote would be for Help for Heroes.

Hiya.. just wanted to say thanks so much for pointing this out, so glad you did.

CAAN is definitely NOT a charity!

Can you imagine the panel at the Charities commission..

"Errrrrrrr - ok we have CAAN... they want to save the perverts, especially the criminalised ones"

"LULZ"

"Yeh.. so that's a no then"

I can't see it going down very well!

If people of alternative sexualities were to ever have a charity it won't be until we are decriminalised, and even then, it won't be CAAN.

We've got activism to do - charities spend most of their time and energies and money just existing..

Too late now but I would have suggested http://www.womensaid.org.uk/

The arguments are inevitable, but you've ignored them and gone for two great and worthy causes. Good on you :-D
