So, i know where to buy run-of-the-mill high street things, like Miss Selfridge, Topshop, et al. I also know where to buy pretty corset type things like in Kiku, etc. However, what i'd like to find is a real gem of a shop where you can get boutiquey or unusual type things that aren't hundreds of pounds.

I'm trying to think what to wear for Dystopia, so anything cutesy, retro, vintage or unusual would be great.

Ideas anyone??

Afflecks is always a winner if youre willing to have a good route around, in the heat, with a load of emo kids...

Although Ive only ever found one thing that was beautiful, the big Vintage shop down from afflecks always seems to have stuff in for other people.

Hope it helps x

Have you tried rockers on oldham street? They have a number of kalandra jane one-off pieces of millinery and cool vintage style accessories and outfits that are v lovely. http://www.myspace.com/kalandrajanedesigns

There are a number of places on Oldham street for retro gear, vintage and pretty much everything else, I can think of four shops (but don't know the names) I think they mainly cater for the influx of students who have probably raped the place of anything decent by now. Although this time last year I picked up a few things which I was over the moon about, it's harder to buy mens clothes without looking like a sissy.

There is a fairly large decent shop on the right after night and day as you go up Oldham street. Its worth a rummage through even if it's odd bits that you can adapt to suit some other garments.

You might like the look of a handle on a handbag, which might cost three quid, the bags crap but you have an idea for the kinky handle etc. All part of the fun of having a rummage around.

Ryan Vintage. It's where I got my wedding dress :) Also Blue Rinse on Tib Street has the odd gem, but sometimes nothing. xx

Compliance for fun? Hell yes.

Junk is quite a nice place which is near afflecks. But the northern quarter is your best bet.

But why not trawl the charity shops every now and then you can find a gem
