Godesses.. and Gods? (27)

I was just reflecting on the fact that a number of dominant women accept and/or self-identify with the label "Goddess" whereas I haven't personally ever heard of a man calling himself a God or a submissive referring to their master (real or aspirational) in this way.

I can think of a few reasons for this:

1. "Goddess" is not associated with a monotheistic, omnipotent deity to the same extent that "God" often is. Therefore it could be argued that it is a more modest claim to be a Goddess than a God.

2. Fem-doms are in great demand and therefore, in the BDSM community, female dominants are allowed and even encouraged to be self-aggrandizing in a way that males are not; men who proclaim to all and sundry that they deserve to be worshipped are more likely to be mocked or labelled as arrogant than women.

3. Possibly, there is a feminist argument that all women hold within them a small amount of Goddess-like qualities and this is something to embrace and proclaim, against the norm. In contrast, domineering, patriarchal, wannabe-Godlike qualities are already acted out by many men and this needs to change before our society can achieve gender equality.

I just wondered which if any of the above you think is most relevant, or if you have a different theory altogether.

Men put us on a pedestal.

I have no need to be a goddess, or anything remotely similar. But if it makes somebody else happy, and does me no harm, then all's good *shrug*

But of your theories, I like 3 best :)

I think goddess has a greater diversity of meaning than god. Inline with your third statement, the goddess is all living things, it is everywhere, its power etc etc

I also think that goddess is taken less seriously, as you say it is probably down to the one god religion in western countries I would imagine it would be different if there were a different prominant faith

So how does one explain a subby that calls himself God just because he can control my macbook remotely...?

Next UK visit 25-29 November, will be attending Pedestal.

I like this post, and I agree with most of your analysis, but in the interests of accuracy I would like to point out that only *some* feminists approve of or encourage the 'all women are goddesses' idea. Other feminists (myself included) consider it a bit a sexist to think that women are somehow superior to men or are inherently deserving of some sort of worship. I cringe whenever I read one of those profiles which claims that all men are worms and all women are superior, and I hate that any aspect of feminism has been taken that way. Not much I can do about it, except say 'not in my name!'

Over inflated self esteem to hide his obvious geekyness? ;)

Being a God is overrated.

The God of Gods is where it's at.

Isn't it because of all the worshipping that goes on?

I work in Tantra and call myself Goddess or Shakti, when it is *relevant* ...sometimes when im feeling bravest even Kali ;^) xxx

Not because i'm up my own arse (I don't think so anyway-ok well maybe a little ;^)...but because in a session the two or three humans* involved are intending to create a *sacred space* where we can let go and be fluid in that divine energy and cultivate it to its potential.

Breathing, meditation, connects us in the present moment and with each other worshiping the divine in both the Male and Female=Shiva/Shakti* I mostly do sessions with the opposite gender and Honor them as Shiva- The Male aspect of God and a reflection of myself.

I have witnessed a lot of Very thankful and even humbled men who have never been seen or *allowed* to be in this place of feeling honored for that nature that burns inside them. I think its GREAT and doesn't need to have negativity attached. I personally think we would be better off if our Men felt in their TRUE power MORE! Its too bad the *ugly kind of power is attached to being a God.

I have faith we are all Gods and Goddesses continuously creating and destroying-I mean the evidence is surrounding us everywhere. And also to combine these two inner fires together to commune with superpowers such as Nature or *The greater Good* can be a real gift to see we are connected with Everything... Which also makes us have a huge responsibility to nurture our divine natures wisely and contribute in this life in our own unique way =) xoxo

If I wasn't such a Buddhist I would most likely be an assassin~

Yes these truths are self evidence but then many subs of both sexs put a transgendered creature like me on a throne and worship me. But I am not complaining.;-)
