chastityslaveFE made the point that have been thinking - there is no such thing as an Alpha human. Meerkats I don't know so much, I tend to think of wolf packs. Alpha denotes that individual that has fought their way to the top of the pack and holds that position by dint of threat: and they are universally recognised by their peers, who may challenge them for that position, but when not involved in challenge will behave submissively towards them. Therefore to use the term an Alpha submissive for the top-ranking one in a troup would be apt: to use the term for any lone human is ridiculous. Are there really any lone doms out there for whom the other doms would bow down and creep on bended knee, roll over and show their bellies, maybe whine and wet themselves a little? There are very few humans who would qualify: probably Saddam Hussein, perhaps Pol Pot for a time, sundry other totalitarian dictators. Or any lone subs for whom other subs would do the same? No? Then you are not Alpha. A self-declared Alpha human (dom or sub) is a good sign of an absolute arrogant Narcissist and nothing else. Edited 22 Sep 10, 11:29 PM by NimueBanditQueen

Basically that, though I would say we've replace might-is-right to an extent - there are some people who lead through being charismatic. Blair and Hitler are both alpha in their own way. To say 'alpha sub', to me implies more of a 'do me now' type of submission, by someone who is actually pretty dominant. How about the ability to write a list by looking up how a site enables you to do that? That would show some 'general talent' on the problem solving front. Here, let me help you:
There, that's better "Bottom line: it's couples who are truly right for each other wade through the same crap as everybody else, but the big difference is they don't let it take them down. One of those two people will stand up and fight for that relationship every time."

Hmmm... imo good point... As I said earlier in the thread... I don't personally believe that the original usage of the phrase "alpha sub" has *anything* to do with alpha in the wolf pack sense... HOWEVER... since this thread is inevitably degenerating that way anyway...
Personally I DO believe that alpha males/females exist within the human race... but those rare few who genuinely *are* have absolutely no need to declare themselves as such... and those who do... almost certainly aren't *If it's not rough... it isn't fun...*

Capitalists adore alpha subs / alpha humans because for 100,001 GBP pa they net you millions; they solve all the tricky business problems that come along and, puppy-like return with their tongues hanging-out and tail wagging (those with tails anyway) ready for the next stick-retrieval or ball-fetch. This activity keeps them trim 'n slim. But if they're getting a bit podgy or looking a bit dog-eared, you as their owner and master, just tell 'em to go and get themselves in shape or take a hike - challenge that ego all the time. Don't be intimidated by them, alpha is their millstone not yours, you just take advantage of it. They want to be told how well they're doing, how outstanding they are and given their wonga. Not a complicated creature at all. "Fork handles?" "No, not 'fork handles' ... four candles."

I agree with your point also. I did say "to use the term an Alpha submissive for the top-ranking one in a troup would be apt" - but it did get a bit buried in a general rant, I admit.

I didn't say I met those criteria. I said they were a reasonable list of what this society regards as alpha in the UK. No one really would dispute the list. Take the 30 stone working class Liberpudlian who works the tills in Tesco and compare her to the slim pretty surgeon with what people rightly or wrongly think is a "better" accent and I am pretty sure what most people in the UK would regard as more alpha than the other. Of course that says nothing about someone ability to be good to others and all those other things which matter to us all but it is the test. I'm not wrong. I agree on IQ 120 would be fine too. 120 was the traditional grammar school level and uiniversity entrance level and I suppose you might get an alpha sub on £50k not on over £100k and sometimes you get very large ones or ugly ones but everything else is pretty good so they meet the basic standard.

I'm going to dispute your list (really). I think alpha in the sense most are using it has more to do with character traits and attitudes rather than physical attributes or acquisitions. I see an alpha as being someone who is very driven, ambitious and agressively competitive; someone who doesn't care who he treads on to climb his way to the top; someone who gets noticed because he makes the most noise rather than because of his achievements. He'll be reasonably intelligent though not necessarily outstandingly so. He'll be reasonably talented at his job though not necessarily as talented as he makes out. He'll get to the top of his profession and will no doubt acquire the material assets you list and will never miss an opportunity to tell you how wonderful he is and what wonderful possessions he has.
