I would buy the set of 3 from Coventry Canes on ebay, that way you will get a 1/4, a 3/8 and a 7/16 for the very reasonable sum of £18.90. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Rattan-Set-THREE-Crooked-S... Personally, I prefer thicker canes - the thicker the better - and stiff rather than bendy. My favourite cane is a 13mm (approx 7/16) Smoked Dragon cane from jacksfloggers. So if I had to recommend only one, it would be that. But everyone differs, so the best thing really would be to get a set of 3 and try them out - you will soon find out which ones you prefer (or maybe all, for different parts of the scene - warm up, medium play, heavy play, etc.) subbie xxx

I would start with a junior and senior rattan cane. then move on from there, I feel they are the more forgiving of the canes. The nursery canes are a little too whippy from my liking. http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Coventry-Canes_Rattan-S... I'd suggest trying those two options out than moved on to dragon canes if you like the rattan. I'd second the suggestion of the set of three from Ebay. Thin, medium and thick. Personally the thin one is a little too thin to control, but you might like it, the medium and thick ones are excellent. It's a good set to try them out and doesn't cost too much, the quality seems fine also. Service and packaging were excellent, plain wrapped and quick delivery etc.

I recommend Quality Control for dragon seniors, the only ones that are durable and that I do not destroy after a few good canings.
http://www.quality-control.co.uk/products/canes Also Top2Bottom have a mean prison cane, that I have, very no-nonsense, thuddy and merciless. http://www.top-to-bottom-leathers.co.uk/Bondage-... Last, but by no means least, this is My very favourite cane of My whole collection My much loved yet loathed Singapore Cane. A US company, you will need to pay the delivery tax when it arrives though if I remember £15, well worth it though. Canes4pain also supply multi-stranded canes too, I recommend the bamboo birch rod! http://www.canes4pain.com/wickedlytraditionalcan...
Best to have a selection of varied thickness, lengths and weight of canes. Thin whippy, bruise inflicting thuddy canes, and somewhere inbetween. I do like My dragon seniors too, and the very flexible kooboo. I actually purchased a derlin/acrylic cane, I have used it only once for a punishment, I am an organic sadist, always go for the naturally harvested, sound better, look better and more control on impact, I am just biased about natural canes.

I would concur with Mistress Rouge's recommendations. If looking for synthetic canes, take a look at Jacks Floggers they offer a great selection. They can be found at www.jacksfloggers.co.uk/ navigate to to "Our floggers" then select "Canes, Crops and Paddles etc". How people treat you is their karma; how you react is yours. I totally prefer rattan canes.
Make them myself too. Rattan is a very different material from bamboo, as in it being very flexible (180 degrees bendable), and when maintained well (put it in a bottle of water before use) it lasts a lifetime. Some differences: rattan (NOT ROTAN!!!) is basically the vein of a palm leaf, and thus not hollow. The flexibility occurs cause it consists of very long parallel fibers, and it doesnt splinter. Bamboo (the thing you buy in garden shops and that is sometimes referred to as rotan) is basically a sort of grass, hollow, not flexible at all, it breaks easily and does leave splinters. Rattan can be very easily purchased in the sort of shops that make baskets, repairs seats of old chairs, or makes oriental furniture, and costs like zilch. Try to get hold of some lenghts of the already peeled variant in various diameters. Making a cane of peeled rattan is very easy indeed; you only need (sea)salt, a sharp (Stanley?) knife, sanding papers of different grains, water, elastic bands and some patience. Anyone interested in further details of making rattan canes yourself, please feel free to mail me. Power is about what you can control. Freedom is about what you can unleash. We are a Midlands based fetish company which also sells canes. If you would like to try before you buy and get advice on using them you can arrange a visit to us in Loughborough. You can watch a scene involving canes here http://www.freakclubwear.co.uk/store/index.php?m... If you enjoy this video we are launching a new one each month or so, and are hoping to having a caning clip available later in the year. We are also running a caning demo at the London Fetish Fair this weekend if you fancy a trip to London. I would recommend the kooboo cane for beginners. It is not too flexible so is easier to control and is not too heavy so is not as intense as a dragon or synthetic. Vicky of Freak Clubwear Freak is 7 years old as a full time fetish business. The BBB is just over a week away and there are a few traders, Quality Control, Freak and of course Jacks Floggers all can give advice and you can pick up and feel before you buy, as well as seeing a great selection all in an afternoon. I recon a visit to would be more than worthwhile Nick Vidi Vici Veni
