I am soon to be put under conscious sedation for a dental procedure. I asked for NOS but apparently they don't do that any more Does anyone have any experience of this kind of sedation? What does it feel like? Do you think I could make the whole thing nicer to attend if I pretended it was a scene (in my head, type thing) - is that possible? ___________________________________

if it's the happy gas, it's cool... I always liked it, but always had to wear trousers when I went as it felt like my skirt was continually rising up my legs!!! (and no I had a lovely dentist!) It's enough to let you day dream while they work. K x It's pronounced 'Car-Lee' *G*

Oh, hang on. If this is the same thing I had a couple of years ago when I was having a broken tooth taken out and un-abscessed, you've got no problem - it's literally an injection and then, five seconds later, your vision goes squiffy and that's it. You're conscious, but you will not experience or remember a bit of it. I woke up three hours after, in bed, convinced it'd been a dream. If it's the same stuff, you're going to be completely fine. I promise, you've got nothing to be concerned about. Unless you're weird about needles. Oh, well, that's easy. The effects seem to come on suprisingly quickly, it was like every tendon in my body had come adrift, no way could I move my arms or legs. Not that I cared because the world was just soft and fluffy lol I should imagine it's what being in the middle of a ball of candyfloss feels like. No real recollection of what happened during procedure. In combination with some good pain relief I felt great afterwards and then as was warned, felt very sleepy a few hours later. Hope it goes well for you Life is not a munch.

Count back from 10
It was satisfactory in that I felt no pain at the time but afterwards I was coughing up blood and I was in agony. When you are under you do not know what they are doing and this concerns me. Do they take the same level of care when you are not watching them? I do not know but it makes one think. Oh and one more thing my underpants were on the wrong way around when I woke up M Space travels in my blood. And there ain't nothing I can do about it.

Hmmm, never had that one. Had NOS and general but never been conscious. I look forward to hearing about your experience. No man is good enough to govern another man without that other's consent. Abraham Lincoln

I'm not saying its going to be awful. I'm not scared of the dentist or needles. I'm looking at playing with it in my mind.
My head is permenantly in the kinky gutter @Sirebel - Oh yes, Will report back. ___________________________________ Edited 3 Sep 10, 7:39 AM by ComfortablyNumb

I go to a sedation clinic in Luton for all my dental procedures now, although I don't like the place. I have to though as my usual dentist who used hypnotherapy has retired. If im honest, my most recent trip wasn't that succesful. I felt rushed and they blindfolded me without asking or saying anything. They also werent particularly friendly, not as friendly as my normal dentist. I then saw why, soon as I was in recovery, they sedationist walked through and said his goodbyes to the other staff as he was off on his hols! So he clearly couldn't be fucked and the dentist was quite rude as well to me. I also didn't feel they sedated me enough. I was told that I would obviously be conscious during the procedure and able to understand commands, but wouldn't feel a thing then would lose my memory about it all a short while later as one of the drugs acts as a memory loss one. Have to say this time, that was utter bollocks and I freaked out as soon as the blindfold hit me. They did the procedure to quickly this time from the IV. So yes, I say, if it doesn't feel right, tell them I wish I did but I just freaked out and got scared.
I can't believe I've no control
