Since understanding a bit more about D/s I have been looking at D/s in lots of relationships. I was thinking about who was dom/sub in relationships on TV. I was thinking about "Friends" in particular. I thought of Monica and Chandler with Monica being the domme. Then I thought of Rachel and Ross, both being sub (thats why they never got it on). thought it might start an interesting topic (or not!)... It's not rocket surgery!

I think I've had this conversation before about How I Met Your Mother. Barney switches, Robin's a top-leaning switch, Ted likely subs and while it might seem obvious Lily tops Marshall, I don't think that's true. Oh, well, that's easy. Tucker's Law: If some cunt can fuck something up, that cunt will pick the worst possible time to fucking fuck it up because that cunt's a cunt. I've got that embroidered on a teatowel at home.

I watched an episode of Family Guy where Brian accuses Lois of being a Domme - was rather amusing and did tickle the ivorys for a while AB If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary-wise; what it is it wouldn't be, and what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?

You are seeing what you want to see, not what the writers thought about putting into the show. People do exactly the same with psychics. Someone saying "I am getting the letter A" doesn't mean they getting a message from someone called Amanda. Why don't cash machines have a Gamble button?

People bring their own subtext. It's bloody inescapable. If they didn't, the internet wouldn't be full of tripe like slash fiction. I'd happily lobotomize 90% of the human race to escape that. _______________

This reminds me of a discussion Im always having with my man-are there any positive representations of BDSM relationships on TV? he says there aren't, its always played for laughs or to show the character is a baddie. He argues that there should be positive representations I argue that A, there already are a few and B, its quite a bedroom based sexuality, how would one know if a couple were BDSM or not, most couples public behaviour wouldn't show anyway. I also think that most TV shows endorse a pretty hetronormal relationship model so anything outwith this is unlikely to be portrayed. In the spirit of the original thread I impose fithyness/kink on pretty much any character I fancy. :P

In CSI Grisom has an affair with a Domme and his relationship with Sara Sidal is pretty much Daddy. But then one could argue Steptoe and son was a relationship of emotional bondage.

Most relationships have an element of one party taking control, its only human and back to our roots animal nature. Where there are constant struggles for dominance there is friction, likewise where there are two submissives it can lead to friction on a different level... maybe not on such a grand and dramatic scale but ultimately leading to apathy. Try as we might we can't fight evolution. Since coming out into this weird and wonderful world I see Dominance and submission everywhere, (in the main not in a BDSM vein) on TV, radio, my vanilla friends, and my overriding opinion is that once they dynamic is struck and agreed it leads to a more harmonious relationship.
Unfortunately having spouted all that shite I really can't think of a harmonious one on TV, anyway TV is for peasants... Now let's see if that creates a kick off, as she runs off giggling. teee heee ehehehhehehehe Tallulah x Ps I do mean television not transvestisism Edited 2 Sep 10, 12:38 PM by tallulahme

Unfortunately one has to monitor the TV to understand what influences one's peasants are being subject too.

and CSI also looked fairly at furries/plushies as well as the issues around the fetishisation of the "larger lady".
but then, "steptoe & son" wasn't half as funny as nick broomfield's supposed documentary on bdsm, "pandora's box"! wi respect, k silently, i pass horrendous beer farts as i move around the bridal department. think of it as my contribution to the spirit of matrimony. |
