Yes... I was wondering about that too... since English is my 2nd language and it must be said that through films, media and such you get more the American version of it - but in order to make it British you can just throw in an extra wowel here and there, so I though no more of it. To the topic: This seems to be little more than a product of poor planning and even worse execution.

Regrets, it is actually. Form a Limited Company, give your address wheresoever you are (offshore or not) and add a nominee director and company secretary from a Company formation agency, resident in the UK. Apply for a visa at your local Embassy, or simply turn up with the paperwork confirming your directorship and at Immigration they are (9 times out of 10) likely to give you a one year visa to remain, in order to 'pursue your normal course of business'. Total cost association? less than five hudred squid. I'd have denied him access to the UK on the basis that he was a pervert. We have to keep these misfits out for God's sake. The detrimental effect they have upon our society in general is outrageous. Pah.

I'd have rejected him too... for total stupidity. If you're going to live in another country for four months, surely you research EXACTLY what documentation you need BEFORE you rock up?

I saw it and didn't think they were small minded, i thought they were as official as they needed to be, they did not ridicule or humiliate him in any way. IF he has said his master was paying for his expensis and who and where his master lived he would probably have been let in the country, but he didn't know himself ! lol and as far as showing it on tv, they would have had to have the Australian guys permission to do so, so all in all it was good tv! I would have applied for a temporary Visa, it's fairly easy to stay in the UK once you're actually in the country, if you really want to do so illegally. Obviously if you have an EU passport it's not an issue full stop. “During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act” - George Orwell

It's a while since I saw this episode but from what I remember the issue was that the gentleman concerned "only" had £1500 for his stay. The Uk Border Officers deemed this insufficient as the gentleman concerned said he was intending to stay for 4 months. The Border officers thought that with living expenses this would be insufficient. I personally think they could well be right, especially since his stay was due to be in London. Having said that...if he was going to be sleeping in a cage and going to be fed scraps etc in return for submission / consensual slavery then he might have, in fact, gone home with some change. His Master to be may have been waiting for him in the arrivals lounge, unfortunately the gentleman concerned never made it that far. If I remember correctly another reason he wasn't admitted was that he either been declined a work visa previously and then there was some debate as to whether the slave contract was deemed to be a position of work. A difficult call but I do think the gentleman was genuinely due to visit a potential Master. As for a right to his privacy, I am sure he must have had to give consent to be filmed. Lady Emma

I think you'll find that the chap in question would have had to have given his full authority to let that footage be used in the programme.... or maybe he just asked his master? I wonder if there was a clause in his contract that allowed for such opportune appearances on British multichannel telly?? "Tie yourself to me. No, no, no, no you're not rid of Me."

I'm sure that even on these shows, they have to sign a release form to allow their image to be shown on national TV. The money they offered him was probably an incentive to sign it. ETA: dammit, someone got there first! My Site | www.Tethered.co.uk Edited 29 Aug 10, 10:42 AM by Eddymonster |
