Well...
Anyone got it?
I've been considering getting it for months, and especially since release. Only i have heard very mixed reviews.
So, Geeks of IC... Starcraft 2
Yay or Nay?

Right, here's what to do... Find an all night supermarket with a games section, then buy it, now! Seriously though it's awesome, very much like SC 1, with aspects clearly aimed at Korean pro gamers but it's a beauty, single player is good and endless multiplayer! A top quality old school RTS!

I thought it was crap. It had to stay true to the original for tournament play and in order to do that it's had to pretty much ignore the last decade of development in the genre. The single player campaign just felt like a crap version of Dawn of War 2. Also there's no single unit in Star Craft that has both a jet pack and a chainsaw. Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: Why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: Why not marry safe science if you love it so much.

Not played it, but paying £135 (£105 not paying RRP) for renting a game has kind of put me off. Especially as you can't apparently run network games and have to play everything through battle.net. I always behave. I just don't specify how.

How on earth did you get to £135? Last time I check the RRP was £35 Digital distribution is the way forward, the same argument is made time and time again for Steam.

I'm guessing that's going to be the price for all 3 parts of the game. From what I've read the current release is just the Terran part. They might release the other parts cheaper as add-ons but as they've increased the price to £45 RRP (although most places are selling it at £35) and have tied it into battle.net which could then incur further costs at some future date, then I wouldn't be surprised to see them charging full price for the other 2 parts of the game. I always behave. I just don't specify how.

It's well known other races campaigns will be released in episodic format, but they aren't part of the game you're actually buying so it's hardly a required cost. Battle.net won't ever go subscription, at least for SC2; there were rumours a year or so ago it would go to monthly sub but it was intended to be an MMO pricing structure that was abandoned. They may charge for other elements of Battle.net however that are unrelated to SC2 or at least Wings. Battle.net is mainly there for DRM, I personally disagree with it's approach just like Ubisoft's always on DRM however it's a fact of life with the high piracy rates on PC games in recent years. It doesn't detract from the fact that Wings of liberty is an excellent Starcraft game. Some say it's too much like the original, but personally after years of new age RTSs it's a welcome change.

I'm going to wait until they all come out in a pack for about £20. As for DRM, it's getting stupid these days, treating customers like criminals, messing up the game so much so it doesn't work unless you crack the game, removing features and various other daft methods. I always behave. I just don't specify how.

I'm quite enjoying it, although I have to admit I found the single player campaign a bit dull, and have given up about half way through it - the story seems to be a big deal but I just couldn't get into it. But I'm a fan of the skirmish/multiplayer side, even if I only have done stuff against the AI so far. It's almost tempting to even delve into the world of online gaming for it, although that would likely involve playing randommers who are likely to be obnoxious little shits who have no problems in beating me! It does seem very much an 'old school' style RTS, and as someone who never got into the original Starcraft (I was always a Total Annihilation person - why oh why did Supreme Commander have to be so disappoiting?) I'm enjoying it far more than I thought I would do. When a man loves a woman it should be understood,

If you call me in eight years, I'll probably have a computer that can run it by then.
Where were you when I was new?

Play the first one. Same thing. Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: Why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: Why not marry safe science if you love it so much. |
