Thanks Ah, those were the days, a mixtape, a radio cassette player that took the strength of Superman to press down 'play, record, and pause' all at the same time. I always used to try and pause the song I was recording so that it didn't actually fade completely so I could do a tape that seemingly had 45mins of continuous music... And when trying to record songs from the charts when I was a teen on a Sunday evening, attempting to cut out the drivel of the DJ at the end of a song...
Now that's what I call REAL multi-tasking... *sighs* Talking of radiograms. My mum and dad had one and I wrecked it trying to 'scratch' "Adam and the Ants - Stand and Deliver..." They were not amused. xxx

I think the taping of the top 40 was a rite of passage for many t(w)eens, me included (until I discovered metal and John Peel, and it all went downhill from there I also remember measuring the "quality" of a stereo by how slow the eject mechanism was; the slower, and thereby more graceful, just had to be the better system! Of course, that was before I discovered my fetish for audiophilia.
Oh, and I also abused my folks' radiogram - playing an Iron Maiden message backwards to hear the hidden messages (basically the drummer saying "don't mess with things you don't understand"!) It *may* have ruined the stylus, but seeing as it was only used to play Jim Reeves, they wouldn't have noticed the difference Eeee, I'm getting all nostalgic now... "In general, someone is a thing of value if and only if he or she is willing to submit to whatever degradation and abuse is required to preserve that position. Anything less betrays a lack of commitment." -- Steve Albini. |
