Rant!! (47)

This post is on the Website help web board (moved from Other BDSM).

Not so long ago I used to really enjoy reading the topic boards, they served a good purpose for me and i am sure many others, particularly as i was a newbie. Often questions in my head were answered through the useful information posted by others. I even felt that i could on occassions contribute and not be judged about 'my' opinion.

So why now do the threads seem to have become an opportunity for constant slanging matches about grammar, spelling, personal issues and of course the playful banter which all has its place; but not to completely sabortage the main point and for it to be lost.

At times the owner of the thread has posted for a reason because they need support and advice. They may not have anyone close to them in this lifestyle to turn to as was in my case. Please could we be sensitive to others needs.

For me this has always been the best site to be on and i have learnt a lot and gained many friends. So it would be great if we could show some respect to others and share the wealth of experience and knowledge to those that ask for it.

Rant over :) Have a good day x

Edited for grammar :)

Part of the problem is that a lot of the useful stuff has moved off to the groups, where it's not always immediately visible unless you've subscribed to that group.

good rant and one that I agree with completly!!

There are still some great contributions from some people and I am still learning a lot from some on here and having my views expanded and challenged but it really does seem as if sometimes this is in the minority at the moment.

But then thats life isnt it really...best policy is just keep posting as we would like to see posted by others and ignore the rest.

This is just the nature of discussion forums on the internet. Nothing specifically to do with BDSM at all. A few forums impose strict moderation which is time consuming and can be perceived as heavy handed. Others degenerate into a total free for all where ounces of wheat need to winnowed from tons of chaff. If you can be bothered. There may not even be a happy medium except by chance.

Even in generally well behaved community there will always those who have got out of bed on the wrong side, posted while under the influence or just in a silly mood.

I don't know if WS Gilbert knew what he had started when he wrote the "List" song from the Mikado. Here's one parody, and a good one too. I'm sure we all have a list of those "who never would be missed". http://www.angelfire.com/tv2/ping0/littlelist.ht...

A good rant.

Yes - the occasional amusing aside lightens things, especially if somewhat intelligent, but to divert is really boring.

Hear hear. I posted something once that was quite upsetting and I really needed advice on it. In nearly 200 replies I received about 10 honest and helpful replies. The rest ranged from making fun of the situation to a personal fight between two members to downright abuse.

I have only been a member for 6 months but have seen it go downhill since then - or maybe Im just not finding it so usedul anymore as my understanding has grown....

I agree, it is about time that you all stopped acting like kids and started supporting people on here, we all started out as newbies once.

True. I still prefer the old system. I still miss off topic :( IC seems so quiet now.

It's not all slagging matches at all, but that which is is the way IC and all interwebz forums always have and always will be.
