Thoughts on dominance and relationship dynamic (0)

This post is on the D/s & M/s web board.

This thread got me thinking about something, so I'd like to throw it open to the world in general.

I'm not sure if this is even the right place to post it (or if there is one) but here goes:

I was reading through the thread and saw a lot of interesting opinions on the "domming the Domme" idea. Personally, I find the idea a bit arrogant, similar to the idea of straight blokes hitting on hot lesbians. Yes, I'm aware that there are blokes who claim to have achieved this feat (both feats), to which I say "bollocks". If a "lesbian" sleeps with a bloke she clearly has a previously-unexplored bi side. Similarly if a Domme is dominated she clearly has an previously-unexplored switch side.

So what's this all about, then?

I personally don't have a submissive bone in my body, but I'm attracted to both dominance and submission, for different reasons (I'm talking about these in the sense of character traits, rather than in the sense of agreed-upon roles and protocol).

Power struggle as opposed to power exchange

So what I'm wondering is, has anyone managed to make D/D work as an exclusive relationship dynamic? Like I said, I'm attracted to dominance but not at all turned on by the idea of submitting to somebody. Likewise, I'm attracted to submission - but if I was able to dominate somebody psychologically to whom I was initially attracted on the grounds of their dominant personality, I strongly suspect I'd lose all interest. It seems to me that this, especially in a monogamous context (ie, no outside play with subs), would be quite a rare dynamic to make work, since the requirement is there for both parties to be so evenly matched in the same or similar characteristics (rather than, for example, the usual requirement from a dom(me) for authority and innovation and from a sub for acquiescence and endurance).

[Edited to add:] I'm aware that plenty of vanilla relationships exist between two dominant people. But does it change things at all when both parties are conversant with D/s and the concept of power exchange?

The obligatory mainstream media reference

I can't be the only one to have found Mr & Mrs Smith incredibly hot. Not when she was pretending to be the meek suburban housewife, but after they busted each other and started beating the hell out of each other on completely even terms.
