Well I had an absolutely shit night, arrived shortly after 8pm to find no seats in the area that the munch was advertised as being held in.

It aint rocket science folks, on a Thursday JD Weatherspoons run their curry and pint deal for around £5 or £6, it's their busiest night bar a Saturday and this Weatherspoons in particular is busy at the best of times.

As the night went on some seats became available as vanilla folks started to leave the room but the problem with this was that once you got a seat, you kept it. This left no opportunity for people to mingle and meet other folk which forgive me if I'm wrong, but is that not what a munch is meant to be about, mingling and chatting to different folk?

Again I have to say this munch is to shit!

I remember not so long ago, when you used to regularly get around 40 + people at the Glasgow munch regularly before the split, hell even after the split one of the munches was sometimes getting around that number. I doubt the GUM has ever seen 30 people.

It's a bloody disgrace and I can't say I'm surprised no one wants to take responsibility for it, it's just a shame that because of the pig headedness of yesteryear the scene in Glasgow is still suffering as a result.

Hell, bootssub makes the posts for the GUM, but ask him to meet a newbie or introduce a new person and he'll shy's away from it and claims he is nothing to do with the munch. Derek2B was instrumental in setting this munch up but rarely turns up before 10.45pm and also claims the munch has no organiser etc.

We need a new munch, this excuse for a munch came about because of pig headed people, most of whom are no longer around or don't attend the GUM.

All this munch is doing is keeping people away, the name it's self is a joke, The GUM (Glasgow United Munch) aka Genitourinary medicine.

It only goes to show that there was a bitter feud a few years back and some people simply won't go to this munch because they see it as nothing more than a continuation of one of the old munches, which in my opinion is bollocks! Even the organiser of one of the old munches at the time of the split won't go, and the organiser of the other munch from that period is no longer around.

I propose we get scrap this munch and have a new munch on the same night that some one takes responsibility for, at a different location in the city centre, doesn't need to be a private function just a quiet pub on a Thursday night.

I'll even find a venue and book it but I don't want to be the organiser in the long term. Glasgow needs a munch but what we have at present is a very poor substitute.

All the best, Chris.

Edited to add.

I happen to like the all the people I have mentioned above, but I don't like what those mentioned above have done to the Glasgow munch.

In fact the only one that still lives in the west of Scotland, is bootssub and he claims its nothing to do with him lol.

I do agree that the venue does leave a lot to be desired, or rather: the room-booking and seating situation certainly does. Hanging around like vultures to grab 1 or 2 isolated seats at a table with everyday punters does not do much to add to one's enjoyment, no.

But then again, I feel a bit bad for grumbling if I'm not willing to take up the reins myself, so to speak!

Chris. It is our interests whoever we are to have a good evening whether it is you, Derek2B and anyone else. Hopefully you do not have any more disppointing munchies.

The munch is at a J D Wetherspoon pub because the person who created the GUM profile, Derek and it is still his profile (I can access it and help him post it) believed currently this is the best place for a Thursday Glasgow Munch. Not having a tradition of a fourth Thursday of each month Glasgow munch every month except December was his concern. To be fair to him. Did you check any watch or clock when he turned up last Thursday?

Neither you nor me have attended everyone of this munch. I was here on one very busy evening when you are not there.

As you said and to be to fair to you. There is a no organiser problem which is more important issue to you than Derek and is a reason why they are people who would not go to to a munch. You too want a Thursday munch in Glasgow every month.

I'm sure I was with both you and Derek on the night I would not introduce someone who I feel looks to me who would not be into BDSM, in your words "I shy away" from introducing that man. I heard Derek suggested to us about searching around for more than one volunteer who do not mind taking turns to organise a Thursday Munch in Central Glasgow if there are to be organisers so that there will always be a munch every month.

If you find a venue which is ideal, can be booked for a Glasgow Munch on a Thursday night, you or anyone can organise it from next month onwards and capable of keeping Glasgow's Thursday munch tradition going continuously. Let us know. That is where the one and only Glasgow Thursday Munch will be. The GUM creator probably will go along with that.

I think there are misunderstandings between you and Derek. This problem should and can be cleared. I would advise you and Derek to keep talking and listen to each other. I look forward to you and Derek to come to the same position to the Thursday munch.

It doesn't matter if there is a GUM or no GUM. Old munch or new munch. Change venue. Say scrap it and start it again. It is still a fourth Thursday munch in a different Central Glasgow venue. The difference will be no organiser and having a organiser and what effect changing venues will have. You and Derek both only want a munch in Glasgow whicheveryone can go to, enjoy and wish to go again and again, including you and him.

I hope I made my position clear. I want Glasgow munchies which anyone would like to attend and can always have a great time.

With kind regards, Bootssub

Given your are answering this and mention Derek2B, are we to assume you are saying you're both organisers of what I can only describe as the worst munch I have ever been to, yes I do keep going back but then it is my closest munch.

Let me assure you that JD Weatherspoons, Counting house is quite possibly the worst bar in Glasgow to hold a Thursday evening munch, especially since they won't allow us to reserve an area, although they used to allow us to reserve an area for the munch, unfortunately it didn't stop other folk sitting in the reserved area as there was no seats for them elsewhere in the bar. Also when this was pointed out to the bar staff that the reserved area had members of the public seated in it, they refused to ask them to move, but then there wasn't anywhere else to re seat them.

As for checking to see when Derek2B arrived, no I didn't, but I'll eat my hat if it was anytime before 10pm, Did you check? Never the less, though as I've said, it's rarely before 10.45pm.

You are quite correct, I have missed one munch since it became the GUM munch.

Could you please tell me what someone who is into BDSM looks like?

On the night I mentioned to you that I thought the gentlman who was lingering around may have been looking for the munch, Derek2B had not arrived. Maybe you should have checked your watch to see what time it was.

As for finding a volunteer, have you or Derek2B volunteered to be there at the start of the night to welcome new folk at the GUM? Also if you read my post in whole, you would have noticed I have volunteered to do it, but not at the Counting house!

I will reiterate that I have no desire for a second munch on the 4th Thursday in Glasgow, and that I will not take no part in the creation of a second munch, but I have said that if you and derek2B are willing to let the munch at the Counting house known as the GUM die then I will be happy to organise a munch on the 4th Thursday of the month in Glasgow. However I would be looking for someone to eventually take over the organising of it.

If you can confirm that the GUM is dead then I will set about arranging a munch for the 4th Thursday in August.

It would appear to be perfectly clear that we all want the same thing, that being a munch on the 4th Thursday. That said, we all seem to be in agreement that the current munch has some major flaws so here's hoping we can put this to bed once and for all.

All the best, Chris ;-)

Glad to see nothings changed. Horray!

Bootsub - I'm pretty sure the plural of munch isn't munchies. Everytime I read that, I think of jake-ball blackneck neds talking about sweets.

Lot's has changed, for a start there is no bitterness and everyone involved is friendly and that's the way it will stay, also we all have the same goals in mind and that is to please everyone.

You have a nice evening now and put that big wooden spoon away :-D

Could you have perhaps taken your comments directly to the 'organisers' in person rather than on a public web-board for all to see/read ?

All the best

I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

It is in the best interest to everyone interested in going to munchies that I respond to avoid any confusion.

Derek2B created a single munch for everyone to attend, to replace having rival munchies which none of us wanted to happen and called it GUM.

I helped the GUM creator to post this munch up on IC {most of them, not all) and the founder of LGRA on Fetlife (the ones already taken place this year under LGRA's founder's organisation) and not for anyone else without my consent.

According to my mobile phone when it was 10.15pm. He was actually seated. This debate about when he arrives is not important any more when a Thursday munch is organised by someone else. [/quote]

Obviously, I do not know what someone who is or not into BDSM look like in a pub.

I never volunteered for any munchies and I know you never volunteered in The Counting House.

I did say to you I would not take any chances into volunteering introducing someone who is or not into BDSM.

You have made your point again and again that is one of the reasons why another venue is required for a munch.

Both you and Derek have no desire for two munchies on at the same time.

To me. Once you have arranged and organised a munch at another venue. That is where the only Thursday munch in Glasgow will be.

I hope everyone is clear about that.
