Recently I wrote a weblog about a "Female Sunday" on IC for the sports shown this weekend on TV. I got a few reactions which made me wonder if the member average here on IC matches the average British population concerning those issues. Or is the male sports interest a gender stereotype anyway? What do you think?

I love sport ( watching rather than doing, I hasten to add ) always have done, and no, its not for perving over the men......although I am not saying I dont I think it comes from Dad and brother playing rugby and cricket and being brought up around it.

It's a complete gender stereotype. I adore sports, played a lot when I was younger and held a season ticket for a London football team for over 10 years, there were many other women who attended the matches. My other half cannot stand football, or any other sport, he only watches it with me when he has no other choice. IC people are no different from the general public, we have people from all walks of life here. "Have people always been this angry? I'm male and have almost no interest in watching sports. Ubi caritas et amor, Deus ibi est. http://www.informedconsent.co.uk/posts/226772/

Some sports, I will happily watch and put time aside for, not many though... very few in fact. I don't think there is one that would really keep me away from sauce though. lp ................bitie bitie...................

Personally i hate sport but i know women who are obsessed with it. So it is obviously a personal rather than gender thing.

No gender stereotype? Funny! I suggest it has to do with IC. I don't know a single woman who looks sport when you don't force them. Wait, wrong. Knew one 28 years ago. She even cheered for Italian football.

I'll be spending my Sunday parked in front of the tv but I know a lot of women who will be doing the same and men who won't care at all. Lots of women, many alone, sit near me at football every other weekend and many others will be watching tomorrow becuase it's the World Cup final. Not just any game! And the British grand prix of course where I will be in the anyone but Hamilton camp

I will be watching the F1 tomorrow and wishing I was there. Incidentally my son is there for the weekend and has already wound me up by phoning me and making me listen to the cars whizz round. ETA: And Mark Cavendish (Tour de France) is very sexy though far too young. Please take everything I say with a pinch of salt (but remember not to exceed the RDA of 6g) Edited 10 Jul 10, 1:43 PM by fellatrix

I'm sat typing this watching the F1 motor racing quallies - though motorsport is a big passion with me, and pretty much the only one as far as sports go. I will watch rugby and eventing too, but other stuff... nah. And I'm female, just in case there were any doubts, lol! But my male OH will just about watch F1, and that's it. Anneski

Sport was something that I did when younger rather than watched. I have never been much of a spectator except on the occasions that I have photographed sporting events and even then it is the still photos that interest me most.
I occasionally watch football on TV but I am not a supporter of any particular team and I'm sure there are many men in my position who are not fans and just watch occasionally 'Kiss the boot of shiny, shiny leather' - Velvet Underground |
