I've hardly seen any flags 'I took my slave to a party, but nobody asked me to play'

All I'm hoping for today is a bloody good game. I'm afraid that some of the matches this World Cup have been rather..(dare I say?)..dull. f x

I totally agree. I only hope that England will go out so that it will be all over. No other interest i the score what soever. Gary x. Everyone who lives dies, but not everyone who dies has truly lived.

See, I don't mind people being really into it and all the flags and stuff, I like geekiness and enthusiasm as human traits. It's not the actual football fans that annoy me, the game really is that important to them. They don't need to tie this afternoon's match to the fight against fascism or think it's life or death for England's cultural identity. It's the people who don't know one end of a pitch to another who are suddenly imbuing a football competition with such significance who are grating. It's only a weblog

For those who never usually bat an eyelid in the direction of football it seems to be NOT about "the game" so much as the perceived patriotism.
