So if you were injured in a car crash you would despise the Firemen cutting you out of the wreckage, possibly putting their own lives at risk, or the Paramedics trying to keep you alive, because they are wannabe authority figures and trying to gain power over you..... Please remember that SOME people wearing uniforms are there to help you.

I'm not picking on this poster in particular, it was just the most recent comment in this vein. I wonder why the need to disassociate from the negative? If that negative were not present (remembering that just about everything they did was lifted from somewhere else), would there be the same effect? I stared into the abyss, the abyss stared into me. It blinked first.

yes, but it IS there and I am not wanting to splinter the thread into that direction. If I was shown a uniform of this style without knowing the historic attachment of the whats and whats for I believe that I would still be attracted to the uniform as it is. I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

It's exactly this attitude that makes me despise people in uniforms. Yes, I have refused help from authorities at the scene of emergencies, and I would do so again. Please remember that not everybody wants the 'help' of so called authority figures. subbie xxx

Ha Ha! My profession requires that I wear a uniform for some of the time. I need to be discrete here - But it is a Captain's and navy like. Without doubt it certainly adds a great deal in the attention stakes Elan

I think it all depends on the uniform the power they exude. I can't see anything powerful in an authoritarian sense in a Paramedic or a Fire Fighters uniform. They are an emergency service but some people may see a different sort of power in that other than authority.
I have a major fetish for Ladies in authoratative unifoms like military, police and prison officer. Authentic but with a fetish slant like boots and leather gloves added

Yes, uniforms can have a powerful effect on how people are perceived. I understand a uniform is often designed to fit the role. I read somewhere some uniforms are so designed they accentuate the wearer's air of authority and so assist in getting people to co-operate. Air hostess was one example given. They apparently need to look the part in an emergency where they need to take charge quickly. Which is, I suppose, why air hostess's uniforms look so damn sexy, I mean authoritative, same thing really. Some roles don't involve authority of course. Maids is an example of course. Aren't school uniforms designed to instil a sense of co-operation with the teacher? There are uniforms for authority figures and for those they wield authority over.
I think, ergo I exist. I keep making stupid mistakes, ergo I don't exist?

Personally, uniforms represent conformity to me and therefore are a turn-off. They are often used as Dom/me-wear, but how much more obedient do you get than military? Think about it.
